CHARLIE ATKINSON SHOWS INCREDIBLE IGNORANCE IN HIS DISMISSIVE ATTITUDE TOWARDS THE NURITH GALONSKY TRAGEDY

"Charlie Atkinson I agree with most of what you say. Unfortunately ignorance runs a muck around here. I was just sharing my experience. I had posters that had a natzi symbols on them when I was campaigning. If it were kids then they don’t know better. They are just ignorant. It’s no excuse but I don’t think it was malicious. I would never have thought she was Jewish. I have had breakfast with her dad many times and I thought he was a Latino. He spoke Spanish mostly when I was around him.."

Guys I realize my background is a bit different.  I was raised in a multicultural home, travelled the world and had friends from all walks of lives.  I know enough that today in a good and bad way, many people under 30 do not know the difference between Mexican food and Italian food.  They just know it as food.  I have learned trying to teach the significance of cultural exchange is a real challenge.  When one student cannot name one Italian dish it is good that we are so mixed, but it is bad because we are unaware of our history.  Good luck trying to explain to young people today that without pasta from either China or the Middle East [actually being debated] and tomatoes  from the Americas, a lot of Italian dishes would not exist.  My point is I get we are arriving to the point that people do not know the basics in terms of our differences.

But now that Nurith has made her faith known, it is sickening to try and make excuses for the evil which acted against her.  It is a good thing for Charlie Cabler there is no proof that Atkinson is nothing more than a stupid supporter of Cabler, otherwise Atkinson's words could do real harm.  Let's see if Cabler denounces him.  Do not hold your breath.

BUT REALLY?  A COLLEGE EDUCATED CHARLIE ATKINSON THOUGHT GALONSKY IS A LATINO NAME

He is way old enough to know better.  This man is so ignorant it comes to him as a surprise Jews speak Spanish.  News flash Charlie, Christopher Columbus was a converso, meaning he was Jewish.  They were also known as Marranos.  This history of Spanish speaking Jews is long.

My ex's family which among the older people of Brownsville are still well known  for Marks Interiors, were Jews who first arrived in New Orleans to eventually all end up in Brownsville.  Their Spanish is impeccable, and they eventually became devout Catholics or Evangelicals.

According to Charlie Atkinson's logic, based only on my fathers name - Wightman - , I am Russian because I speak Russian, and I am Latino because I speak Spanish.

I want to be clear, when dealing with this type hate, there is no room for making excuses that it was not anti-Jewish. To protect against this hate, this is the only acceptable narrative.  Also I want to apologize toTemple Beth-El of Brownsville, TX, for not demanding the BPD provide them 24/7 police protection at this time, until this is worked out and we can know it was an isolated incident.  But my dear friends, it was not.

AS BY-STANDER CITIZENS WE ARE EMPOWERING THIS HATE AND WE THE PEOPLE NEED TO TAKE THE LEAD, BECAUSE WE CANNOT COUNT ON LAW ENFORCEMENT TO PROTECT US SO LONG AS WE ARE NOT THE LOUDEST VOICES ON THIS ISSUE

HEY CHARLIE, YOU WANT TO KNOW WHERE THE NAME NURITH COMES FROM?  IT IS HEBREW FOR A BEAUTIFUL FLOWER

It is a well known fact that many of the local Hispanic families in South Texas and Northern Mexico are descendants of Serphardi Jews that settled in this area. A fact that is unknown to most of the Hispanic in this area due to the lack of interest and knowledge of our ancestors and the fact that these individuals tried to assimilate into a new society in the new world while fleeing prosecution for their religious beliefs in their old country.

You stated, "there is no room for making excuses that it was not anti-Jewish." Is it an anti-Jewish incident? Do we have white supremacists and bigots groups in Brownsville? Yet, we do have a monument in Washington Park honoring Jefferson Davis. A situation that has lingered for almost two years and the good citizens of this community has yet to make a decision on such issue. I do not recall you making a big issue of this situation in your blog. If you did, I hope that you can address it again. Perhaps, addressing such issue could have let it known to the community that Brownsville does not
condone bigotry or discrimination in this community.

I hope that the Police do investigate the Galonsky's incident. We are good people in Brownsville that respect the beliefs and equality of others. Perhaps, if elected Ms. Galonsky will address the issue of the monument in our city park.

I approved your comment to show people just how shallow you are. Really you are comparing this to a historical debate over a rock. You are comparing this to people wanting to erase history. I have written extensively on this. Dallas went through the same thing with a "whites only" sign over a water fountain found during remodelling. Historians and the black community went back and fourth and it was decide there was more value in keeping it as a history lesson.

It blows my mind we have a world wide crisis of churches and people being attacked because of their faith and you spin this into a stupid discussion about a rock.

It is because of people like you we need to be even more vigilent.

Nobody is trying to erase history or do a "historical" debate on a rock. The fact is that racism is alive in this country. A rock being displayed in our community park honoring a leader that believed in discrimination and bigotry serves no lesson in history to this community. History is taught in the schools and museums.

The rock may be a "stupid discussion about a rock" to you; but, it is a symbol of discrimination and bigotry against blacks, Jews, Mexicans and other minorities in this country. Don Lemon CNN said in his show that having a monument (rock)in our communities honoring a person who believed in discrimination and bigotry is like having a monument of Hitler honoring him for his bigotry against Jews.

Your selective interest in history is repugnent. When you are prepared to call the abolishing the National Anthem because Francis Scott Key justified the killing of the slaves who fought with the British then maybe we can have an intelligent discussion.

I have documented Steven F. Austin's letters wherein he warns the north that if the slaves are freed the men will rape their white woman.

Moat of the founding fathers owned slaves.

Historical figures who were strong supportes of slavery are displayed all over Texas, and even Washington. When you get serious about a full house cleaning then maybe someone may take you serious. Steven F. Austin's words were used to lynch black men. In fact just last week the last known man to be party to lynching a black man in Texas was put to death last week. He was party to dragging a black man behind a truck.

So please tell my readers why Steven F. Austin's words justified lynching blacks and no one is calling for changing the name of our state capital from Austin. We both know if you were to take on that cause you would be laughted out of town.

History is what it is. It is not for a free society to edit it to accommodate people who need an issue. Such as how congree editted the Star Spangle Banner to it did not include Francis Scott Key's racial hatred

You are still spinning into a distraction. What idiots are sayng today has nothing to do with the confederate soldeiers. Also your dismissive attitude towards prominate people life Stephen F. Austin and Francis Scott Key speaks the truth that you are being very selective about your indignation.

e both know if you were to start a petition to rename the state capital you would be deemed nuts. That does not change the fact Stephen F. Austin was a big time racist.
.
.

Show some guts and start blogging to change the name of our state capital.
