THE RIDDLE BEHIND ERASMO CASTRO

Given his previous proven record of being able to pull 10,000 votes and the people's mood of in with the new and out with the old, Erasmo's election was no great surprise.  But there are problems.

THE BV REPORTS ALL SIDES AND THIS SEEMS TO CONFUSE PEOPLE, WHY?

The other day I posted on another blog that any BISD Trustee can ask for an Attorney General Opinion on whether or not Castro is qualified to sit as a Trustee.  I then posted the law on the issue.  For reasons unknown to me this seemed to confuse people.  Well just people who expect you to take a side and put on blind folds as to anything negative about the side you have taken.

I have also posted that it would be a mistake for BISD to refuse Castro his seat, which they could, and then force him to sue.  If BISD were to lose the political cost to the trustees would be huge.  I have no idea why people cannot understand the distinction of the law and the potential fall out if it is enforced.  That is all I have done is cover both sides, the law, and the potential fallout if it is enforced.

SHOULD CONVICTED FELONS BE ALLOWED TO SERVE?

YES.  I have always opposed this rule.  If someone has served their term and redeemed themselves, then we should allow them to serve.  Maybe their experience in being convicted and suffering the consequences of same will allow them to bring a new perspective to the table.  So as to the rule - it is a bullshit rule which finds no value in redemption.

BUT THE PROBLEM

On Thursday BISD can refuse to sit Castro on a claim he has a felony conviction.  He would then have to sue BISD for his seat.  If he loses the consequences to him could be large.  If he wins, he will all but own the board.

Any Trustee can hold up his taking his position by asking for an AG opinion.  Again if Castro wins he will have a very strong voice against the Board, if he loses it will impact him for the rest of his life.

Also, if the Board allows him to take his seat, can a threat of removing him control his votes?

The BV has documented in the past, most of everything said in Executive Session can be repeated when they get ready to vote.  The caution is to not disclose bidding discussions and such, or personnel matters.  But subtle hints about his past he is free to tell everyone on camera about the implied threats.

WHAT NEEDS TO GET DONE

The Board needs to act now, or forever hold its peace.  Idle or implied threats only make the Board look stupid.
