PREDICTING THE ELECTION RETURNS

It is all nonsense.  There is no polling in Cameron County.  No one has a clue.  But even polling has become a joke.  Right now Trump polling ranges from an all time low to an all time high.  How can two professional pollsters be so different?

What we have is the pro Saenz team v. the anti-Saenz team.  I voted for the anti-Saenz team.

THE SBOE ELECTION RAISES QUESTIONS

For the Republican primary it is sound to endorse Tad Hasse because the SBOE does need a math expert.  No personality needed to decide this issue.  This is  a fact of substance.

But in the November election, Hasse is wrong unless he denounces the Republicans on the SBOE.  We do not need another Republican who wants to change the term slave to guest worker., or limit teaching about Thomas Jefferson.

Yes, having a SBOE math expert would be great.  But is it also essential to our children's education to insure we have strong Democrats on the SBOE to challenge the ignorant changes the Republicans want to put into our textbooks.

You can say what you want about Ruben Cortez, but you can not find one thing he has done wrong as a SBOE member.  He has fought the craziness of the Republicans.  Had Tad Hasse been a Democrat running against Cortez his math background would have been a formidable asset in his campaign.  Unfortunately his ties to the Republicans makes him guilty by association for the nonsense of the Republicans on the SBOE.  Of course he can gain points by denouncing this nonsense and demanding the board focus on accurate textbooks without political nonsense.

This should be a nonpartisan election. Truth in accuracy in our textbooks should not be guided by political agendas.

It is sad because a math expert would be good for the schools, but another Republican would be a disaster.

Ruben Cortes has stood strong against the crazy Republican agenda and that deserves the reward of reelection.

But if Tad Hasse is serious about math even without the win he can be an advocate to promote better math text books.  I suspect if his ideas promote better math instruction Ruben Cortez would listen to his ideas and bring them forward

MY GREAT NIECE AND HER TROOP RAISE MONEY FOR TWO SCHOOL PLAYGROUND BENCHES

This is who we are as a family.  We see this as character building.  But for me the real message I want to communicate is my grand niece's parents are big Trump supporters.  My grand niece is trained in how to handle hand guns.  We respect each other's differences.  But being different as to political views does not change our family value of promoting such volunteerism and character building. It is not a Democrat of Republic issue.  It is a human issue.

Being human and mutual respect is what united us.

ONCE A DOG LOVER ALWAYS A DOG LOVER

Today Buster is very calm.  She got up late did her business, came in for a treat, played a bit with my roommate's grandson, and is now sound asleep.

A tradition of mine is to go through old photo albums before going to NY and distribute pictures to the family members in the pictures.  We will get a bit of a laugh from the old pictures, and then I guess they get lost in their albums.  It is just something fun to do to spark old memories.

WARNING TO CITY OF BROWNSVILLE

When you read the highlighted parts, you will see this term the Supreme Court will end the nonsense of the City of Brownsville silencing dissent against individual elected officials.  The COB is warned.  End the nonsense now, or be sued.

"WASHINGTON (AP) — Supreme Court justices seemed troubled Tuesday by the arrest of a Florida man during a city council meeting in Florida, an arrest he says was retaliation for being an outspoken critic of the city.
The justices were hearing arguments in a case brought by Fane Lozman over his arrest at a 2006 city council meeting in south Florida's City of Riviera Beach. Lozman was arrested after he began using the meeting's public comment time to talk about government corruption in the county and kept speaking after a member of the council warned him not to continue with the topic. The charges against him were ultimately dropped, but Lozman then turned around and sued the city.
Lozman claimed the city violated the First Amendment's free speech guarantee by arresting him in retaliation for his criticism of city officials and policies and a separate lawsuit he'd filed against the city. A lower court ruled that because a jury found a police officer had probable cause to arrest Lozman for disturbing a lawful assembly, he couldn't bring a retaliation claim.
Chief Justice John Roberts said he found video of Lozman's arrest "pretty chilling." He said Lozman appeared to speak in a very calm voice for about 15 seconds and then "the next thing he knows, he's being led off in ... handcuffs."
"Now the council may not have liked what he was talking about, but that doesn't mean they get to cuff him," Roberts said.
Justice Sonia Sotomayor also appeared to take issue with Lozman's arrest.
"He started by saying there's been an arrest for corruption, which was true. And then he tried to say, 'And I've been telling you that other people are corrupt,'" she said. "Why is that off topic?"
Shay Dvoretzky, arguing on behalf of the City of Riviera Beach, said Lozman's comments were not about the city but the county it is part of, Palm Beach County.
Justice Elena Kagan also seemed sympathetic to Lozman, telling Dvoretzky that he "might have some difficulty with the facts of your case."

Click for story

I may take the arrest.  We shall see, after I get back from NY.  It is time to call out the Galonsky Circus and the entire city commission by name during public comment.

Like I have told so many people, the power of voice and organization is more powerful than guns.  This pending decision which by all accounts appears to favor calm dissenting speech at city commission meetings, can and will  bring better government to Brownsville.

It would be nice if several people would join in a take down of the city commissioners all by name, and the BISD.

I'M STOKED TO BE IN NY FOR MY 60TH, BUT IT APPEARS BUSTER IS NEARING THE END

She still goes outside, but not quite to the grass.  She has benign tumors all over her body.  The large one which I had removed several years back is growing back above the old one.  She knows the key words like out and treat.  She is nearly blind, and is very hard of hearing.

Some days she gets stuck and is unable to get up.  The 81 mg aspirin is all she gets. Once it kicks in she is fine.  She will be 16 in August.  She seems more scared than anything else not being able to see or hear well.  She is still amazing with children.

But there are times her breathing is so heavy I'm just waiting for the end.  I have a team to take care of her while I am gone.  She would not like the kennel.  If she is going to pass I want her to to pass at home.

Her heart is strong, but not strong enough for surgery.  I would rather she pass before Friday than when I am in NY.  Tomorrow I will sign the paperwork for the cremation while I am gone if she passes.

Dogs are the best medicine in the world.  I cannot imagine being in my mid 70's caring for dogs, but I know me, within a few months I will be at the pound looking for two new dogs.  For dogs lovers our life is empty without dogs.

Keaton was the alpha so Buster and I never really had a lot of one on one time.  But these last few years has been just the two of us.

She is spoiled.  She knows how to get me to hug and caress her for long periods of time and how to get a treat on demand - like when the phone rings or my roommate is talking with me.

THE RED STATE OF TEXAS IS HEMORRHAGING

"Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) reportedly says in a Monday fundraising email that Democrats’ early voting figures in the state should “shock every conservative to their core.”
Going against the general norm in Texas, more Democrats in Texas have turned out to vote in 2018 primaries so far than Republicans.
Abbott sent an email to supporters asking for donations and warning that Democratic enthusiasm in Texas could lead to results that mirror the party’s victories in special elections across the country."
When you examine all of the numbers if early voting holds at 60% more or less, the Democrats will have gains.  About this time some very high profile Democrats who chose not to run for governor are hitting themselves.
Young people are voting for the first time, the elderly are seeing their retirement threatened, and minorities are concerned for their future.
This may very well put Texas into play in 2020 for the presidential race. I can see the Texas Legislature being less Red after November.

THE RED MARKS EVERY WEST VIRGINIA SCHOOL DISTRICT CLOSED BECAUSE OF TEACHER STRIKE

The theory behind higher corporate taxes is the corporations will spend more on employees and development to gain tax deductions. This nonsense of no corporate taxes leads to the closing of schools and reduced social services. Yes Texas has virtually no taxes, but when disaster hits we are like beggars on the doorstep of the federal taxpayer to bail out Texas. But the lower taxes brings Texas the jobs, while the federal taxpayers subsidize Texas when disaster hits.

This strike in West Virginia could be another sign of the country going back to the middle and even in some cases the left.  November is going to be interesting.

When you have President Trump saying it is okay to fight back against the NRA, you know the polling is showing a move away from the right.

To the trolls - yes let's fire all of the teachers.  Who is going to go to West Virginia to teach when the wages and benefits suck, and you will be fired for demanding better wages?

TRUMP ADMINISTRATION'S ATTEMPT TO BYPASS FEDERAL COURT OF APPEALS IN DACA CASE FAILS

To be clear this is a standard practice for the Supreme Court.  It is not a precursor of things to come.  The Supreme Court prefers these type cases be fully developed before they take them.  So for now DACA is on hold and Trump's EO ending the protections is unenforceable.

THE NEWS MEDIA DOES CONTROL THE NEWS CYCLES, BUT SOCIAL CHANGE AND MESSAGING FROM THE PEOPLE AND COURTS CAN INFLUENCE THE NEWS CYCLE

The Parkland shooting is still in the news cycle, barely.  If the students can keep this in the news cycle then we may see change.  The other day the Supreme Court was put on notice it will have to rule on the right to own the type guns used in these mass killings.:

"ANNAPOLIS, Md. — Maryland's ban on 45 kinds of assault weapons and its 10-round limit on gun magazines were upheld Tuesday by a federal appeals court in a decision that met with a strongly worded dissent.
In a 10-4 ruling, the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Richmond, Virginia, said the guns banned under Maryland's law aren't protected by the Second Amendment."
You will note this was not a three judge panel, it was the entire court issuing the ruling.  The next question is will the Supreme Court let it stand or will 4 Justices agree to hear the case.
This case will be closely watched by all concerned with the issue.  It should help to keep the issue in the news cycle.
A NATION OF LAWS CANNOT SIMPLY IGNORE THE LAW BECAUSE SOCIAL COMMONSENSE COMMANDS SAME
Look, I have read the Constitutional Minutes (the written debate of the Constitution during the Constitutional Convention and Debate), Blackstone, (common law) large parts of the Digest of Justinian (summary of Roman Law), and history.  Original Intent is a misused term to justify anything.  The late Justice Scalia used it to his convenience and not based on the original common law at the time the Constitution and Bill of Rights was written.
For example Blackstone wrote several times unenforced laws become unenforceable over time as a violation of the rights of the people.  Scalia rejected this clear common law rule which existed at the time of the writing of the Constitution to justify keeping unenforced sodomy laws on the books.
Blackstone wrote marriage is the sole province of the Church and a mere inconvenience for the state.  He wrote it was for the Church to decide unscriptual marriages.  With the right of pro gay spectrum churches common law no longer served Justice Scalia so he decided this law known to our Founding Fathers was no longer of any consequence.  This common law rule helped to bring about common law marriages.  The state clearly had no interest in marriage.
It was the courts not the legislature which started regulation of marriage through divorce cases.  They claimed the State had an interest in protecting the children without a word on the regulation of marriage.
THE ARGUMENT OF THE RIGHT TO OWN ANY GUN HAS LOST ITS PURPOSE
Where does the inherent right of self protection begin and end?  States have "Stand Your Ground" laws which in rare cases legalize murder.  We may need a constitutional amendment to fix this problem.  I do not want a system where changing social demands force the courts to create social policy.
Now some will say what about how the courts made social policy on gay spectrum rights.  They did not.  They simply found the federal constitution did not allow for the discrimination.  Put it in the constitution and then the courts must uphold the discrimination.  It is that simple.  Governmental power comes from the federal constitution, by and through the people.  If the people through its Charter have not authorized the government to regulate the matter then the government has no interest in the matter.
THE IDEA GUNS WILL PROTECT US FROM THE GOVERNMENT ACTUALLY EMPOWERS THE GOVERNMENT TO ABUSE US
Because so many people, me included at one point, believe we need weapons, including automatic rifles to defend our self from the government, we remain silent on our greatest weapons, the right to organize and protest.  We must organize to fight the government on these issues.  I just hope these young people can make it happen because it will extend beyond the one issue.
The Power of Voice can overcome an armed government.  It has been proven in modern times.

AN UNFORTUNATE TRUTH

VOTED AT SOUTHMOST LIBRARY

I just had to vote for certain candidates.  The Betancourt dynasty has to end.  Plus Sylvia Garza Perez is doing a great job.

THE TROLLS NEVER GIVE UP

Yesterday I rejected a troll comment claiming the Democratic vote turn out was down 40% in Cameron county.  Evidence - none - reality - totally a lie.

While it is impossible to know for sure, it appears early voting for Cameron county only elections, will surpass the 2014 numbers.  When you look to the 2014 numbers you must look to the difference in votes for statewide office or offices which cross county lines, and those simply cast for Cameron county offices.

Given the numbers at this point and the number of days left to early voting it appears we will surpass 2014 numbers.

Texas is a Red Red state, but the fact more Democrats have turned out statewide in early voting raises the question, is Texas moving Blue. Yes the Republicans will take all statewide offices, but the margin will be smaller than in the past.

"AUSTIN, Texas — Democrats in Texas are early voting in large numbers ahead of the first primary elections before the 2018 midterms, stoking party optimism that backlash to President Donald Trump won’t escape the biggest conservative state in the country.
More Democrats have cast ballots than Republicans since early voting began this week in Texas, according to state election figures released Thursday, and turnout among Democrats is up 46 percent over the last midterm elections in 2014. For Republicans, meanwhile, turnout is basically flat."
It is sad there is no big name at the top of the ballot for the Texas Democrats.  With Gilbert Hinojosa running the Party no one wanted to spend the time running for Governor.  Lupe Valdez, the lead Democrat and current sheriff of Dallas County will not be able to overcome Governor Abbott short of a miracle.
But if these numbers hold, November could be interesting as Texas moves closer to Blue, but not quite there.

NOT SO SIMPLE, SOMETIMES ANGER IS NEEDED - SOMETIMES BALANCE

ARE WE RETURNING TO KENT STATE LEVEL WALKOUTS AND PROTESTS?

It was 1976, the anniversary of the Kent State shootings by the National Guard which killed 4 unarmed students, when our principal threatened mass expulsion of those students who went outside to put the flag at half mass.  The politicos were no longer tolerating the solidarity of the students with those lost at Kent State.

Shortly after the killings estimates were as high as 4 million students walking out of the universities and schools in solidarity with the 4 who died.

The national news media has the walkouts spreading to the middle schools.  Will this be a short news cycle or will it last until November and impact the elections?

If the walk outs continue the cost to the school districts could be significant.

Times are interesting.  Not since Kent State have we seen this level of spontaneous response by the students.

WHAT IS IN A NAME?

A president shot in the head dies in Parkland hospital.  A mass shooter kills 17 people in a school in Parkland, Florida.  Only time will tell how long this lasts in the news cycle.

Are the children showing the resolve the parents and politicos have refused to show?

Image result for early voting

EARLY VOTING NUMBERS APPEAR TO BE HOLDING COMPARED TO 2014

Day one of early voting saw 1087 Democrats and 199 Republicans turn out.  Compared to the county only races in 2014, the numbers seem about right, albeit low overall.  Click for 2014 South Padre is interesting because 5 Democrats voted to 11 Republicans.  Given the LNG issue and its impact on tourism I find this interesting.   But then maybe they are blaming the Democrats for LNG.  The Democrats are in charge after all.

TODAY ANOTHER SHIFT ON GUN CONTROL

Today the 5 Republican Justices could not find 4 votes to hear a case out of California which further limited gun access - really more regulation than access.

The heart of Juridical Methodology is understood best in Justice Jackson's dissent in the following case.

" I see no reason why I should be consciously wrong today because I was unconsciously wrong yesterday."

This is why it is important that we continue to challenge so called precedent.  Social changes and moods change how the Court views issues.  In the last few years we have seen more and more opinions by the Supreme Court questioning financing in judicial campaigns and judicial activism.  The right case will come along and judicial immunity as we know it will fall.  As they say, "you give an inch, they take a foot."

No Supreme Court doctrine is carved in impenetrable stone.

ROBERT SANCHEZ'S SCALES OF JUSTICE WEIGHT AGAINST JUSTICE

Sanchez's home has a pending offer. He has always said he would then move in with his parents.  These scales of justice paint a picture.  There is more at play here.

THE END IS NEAR - BV EXPECTING LOW TURNOUT

This is  an uneventful  election.  The turnout will be  those who know the candidates, and the regulars who vote as a matter of duty.   The good news is this election which will change nothing is almost over.

SANCHEZ DOMINGUEZ AD WAS AN OCTOBER SURPRISE

My sources are telling me this will not end.  There are more ads. Oliviera is pinned down unless  he can respond without  bringing in  Lorrie.  The question is who is the money behind Dominguez?  This is where some great investigative journalism is needed.  Oliviera was betrayed by someone he trusted.  It is only going to get worse.  Oliviera has outlived his usefulness so the bookies are banking on Dominguez to replace Oliviera as the next sell out.  Oliviera better expose who got the Herald to flip on him, or  embrace his retirement for the State Legislature.

So the record is clear I get  to vote in this one and I am voting for neither.  Oliviera never understood he is only as good as his usefulness.  He has outlived his usefulness so a new and stronger machine is gunning for him.

In terms of long term advertising someone out bid Oliviera with the Herald.

THE MEGA POLITICAL EARTHQUAKE THE BLOGGERS MISSED, AND HOW SANCHEZ, DOMINGUEZ AND THE HERALD REACHED A NEW LOW IN VILE POLITICS

When I was sent this picture of Sanchez and Dominguez together it meant nothing to me because on the day I got it I also got one of Dominguez and Trevino together.  A picture by itself means nothing.

I will admit I did not see Sundays' ad by Sanchez and Dominguez unless it is the same running on Sanchez's comical blog.  I did receive a lot of phone calls for my opinion.

THE MISSED MEGA EARTHQUAKE

By standards of human decency the Sanchez ad the Herald accepted reached into the lowest bowels of hell.  This is the story which was missed.  The Herard broke with Oliviera and allowed for an ad, many people will see as vulgar, vile and incredibly injurious to the Sanchez children. What has happened at the Herald which allowed them to print such a horrible piece of trash so injurious to the children?  Did the ad in effect say the Herald is done with Rene Oliviera?  That is the story.

IS OLIVIERA CORNERED?

Let there be no mistake the ad was vile.  It proved Sanchez has no use for his children's emotional well being.  It proves Dominguez is so desperate for power which is worthless in this case unless he intends to immediately sell himself to the Republicans and corporatists, is desperate and is all too willing to emotionally destroy the Sanchez children.

Oliviera cannot respond to the ad without keeping the narrative going.  The narrative is incredibly injurious to the children.  Does Lorrie tell her story in an ad?  It will get back to the parents of the children who attend school with her children.

Women do not like married women who have affairs and get engaged to another man while going through their divorce. Lorrie and Rene must sacrifice the children in order to respond to the ad.  Will they?

Continuing the narrative at any level will only serve to injure the children.  People will talk about it and so too will their children.  Lorrie's children will be asked about it by their friends.  It cannot be avoided.

The cruelty of Sanchez and Dominguez opening this door is beyond surreal. I cannot vote for Rene.  But I cannot see how anyone who cares about the emotional well being of children can vote for Dominguez.

Oliviera can respond that Sanchez tested positive for drug use during the divorce, he was held in contempt for using the blogs to abuse Lorrie, he was criminally charged with assault on Lorrie, and then he violated the terms of his probation. Such an ad must be used to gain sympathy for Lorrie with no mention of Rene.  If Rene is mentioned it will only continue the narrative of her being a cheating wife.  Your marriage has failed fine, get out of it.  But do not have an affair and get engaged while you are still married to another man.

DOMINGUEZ - RENE DOES HAVE A RESPONSE

Why is Dominguez aligned with a man who was charged with domestic abuse and tested positive for drug use during his divorce?  Did Dominguez use his influence to endlessly delay Zeke Silva's at least second felony charge for DWI to March 5, 2018, so it will have no impact on the election?

For those of you who do not know, Zeke Silva is Dominguez's administrative assistant.   Zeke owns two businesses and works a third job for the county because of Dominguez.  We have highly qualified people looking for work, struggling to support their family, and Dominguez insures Zeke Silva gets the county job not withstanding the fact he owns two businesses.

Dominguez is no more about the people than Rene Oliviera.

MY ENERGY EFFICIENCY EFFORTS CONTINUE TO PAY OFF

I was real worried about March's bill because the heater ran nearly nonstop for several weeks.  Well here it is.  Last year for the March payment it was $238.93.  This year the bill is $186.21.  The new insulation in the attic is paying off.  My savings is $52.00 and change.  I pay Lowes $115 a month for 3 years at 3.9%.  It saves me money and ads value to a house.  If you buy a house and make the decision on the mortgage only without comparing utility bills, you will screw yourself.  I have a neighbor with a smaller house who pays a lot more.  There is just no energy efficiency in his home.

Could you imagine my bill if the rate increase were taken away?

ALL TEXAS VETERANS

I think I pay 3.9% on my Texas Veterans Land Board home improvement loan.  It is currently at 4.2%.  I pay about $159 a month for 25 years.  I borrowed just under the limit of $25.000.  My insurance went down because of the new roof.  Because I changed out the copper pipes along with a new roof I was able to get windstorm and regular insurance with one company which saved me nearly a $1,000 a year on insurance.  I also got my electrical upgraded for a modern home, and my energy efficient beautiful French Doors, which I love.  Later I borrowed at Lowes for the blown in insulation.

When you consider my energy savings and insurance savings the loan is costing me nothing, but the value of my home went up.

THE POLITICAL AND NEWS CYCLE OF OUR SOCIETY

I do not care what the issue is, this is the reality of our news cycle and approach to all social and political problems.

The Democrats and Republicans are nothing more than paid talking heads to distract us from real issues.  I am so over the Russian investigation.  Everyone knew we along with the Russians meddle in elections through social media.  Really you did not know social media is about distractions and fake news?  Have you ever checked the quotes on the memes of famous people?  The majority are false.

We fall for this because we are stupid.  Ragu whose advertising agency is run by idiots is running an ad that the original cook of the sauce would place the sauce in non-existent plastic containers at the time and then sell it.

This is it people - they sell it and you buy it.

But hold on to your phone tight, because it could be today you get the call there is a shooter at your child's school.  RING!!!!!!!  My child is okay, fine not my problem.  My child is dead - it is Obama's fault.

JUST THE FACTS- UNIVERSAL HEALTH CARE
A FURTHER CLARIFICATION ON BISD

The trolls blow my mind with their nasty comments.  Money was never an issue in this mess.  No parent wants to put their child through potentially years of litigation.  The goal was to get help, and when BISD started to expedite the process before the limitation deadline, we pulled back.

There will be no litigation.  There is no need for litigation.  But there is significant need for reform.  I am not seeing that from the Board.

THE TEACHERS NEED PROTECTION

This is simple.  A BISD official is asked to interview a child for help.  The official tells us he could not interview the child because the speech impediment is so bad.  It is February, why was this child not referred for help?  The child is getting help now.

The teachers and low level administrators know if they push special needs too hard they will suffer retaliation.  This atmosphere of retaliation at BISD has to end.

The blame is with the Board.  When Zendejas passed on the problem instead of handling it thereby turning it into a PR problem for BISD, any reasonable Board would have handled Zendejas. She abandoned her duties, and that is not acceptable.

I want to be clear the parents and children are very happy with the end result.  There is no issue of litigation on the issue.  BISD fixed the problem.  Litigation has no purpose and in fact could prove burdensome to the children.  Their world needs to be family, friends and school, and not court.  So to be clear BISD is 100% in the clear on this issue.

Many of you do not know, but unless the status has changed Texas Child Protective Services is under the control of two masters appointed by a federal judge, with the decision upheld by the federal court of appeals.  The fundamental problem is funding.

Texas loves to brag about no taxes to attract business but says nothing about how its hands are always out to the federal taxpayers to subsidize Texas and Texas' failure to fund social services.

The TEA complaint still needs to be resolved.  It is the only hope the TEA or the Board will address the fundamental problem.  I get the lack of funding.  But I also get the mismanagement of the limited funds.  I also get how children are to go without rather than an elected official chancing being voted out of office because they are willing to raise taxes.

As Phil Cowen noted taxing is not the only way to increase BISD's revenue.  I hope BISD can force the issue of only allowing for tax benefits on historical properties which tell Brownsville's history.

Phil Cowen also pushed for addressing the issue of Tenaska and lowering rates and maybe getting some money back.  For this he was attacked with lies.

The fix is three fold:  increase revenues by means such as those suggested by Phil Cowen;  better management of the budget with more focus in special needs; and less on discretionary issues such as unneeded upgrades in athletics and possible tax increases.

This case ends with how the BISD Board chooses to manage the problem and how the TEA rules.  But for the parents there will never be litigation.  They will let the TEA do what they need to do.  With the children getting all needed services maybe the the TEA will dismiss the complaint.  It is in their hands.

The BV will continue to cover how the BISD Board covers this issue and the overall budget.

There are ways to fix this with leadership.  That is the goal.

BISD - A LIMITED ANSWER

As an advocate for what eventually became two children, at this point I have to be careful in what I say.  I will say this, I have BISD's attention.  I will not say how.  Both children are now receiving services as of today.

Both were professional tested.  In a year an a half both will have completed learning the tools they need to be regular students and be very successful students.

I get people's frustration.  So many of the comments posted were nasty.  Very bright children fail to succeed because correctable learning issues are not addressed.   That is one issue.  Some children have permanent disabilities.  That is another issue.  Another issue is children who do have anyone at home as a cheer leader or to encourage them at home.  They are smart kids, but without support.

There are more groups.  This makes the process complex.  But when intervention techniques fail to work on a child who everyone agrees loves school and has strong support at home, it is time to test the child.

I fully support intervention in cases where there is no parental interest to create a cheer leader system at the school.  Even in first grade BISD should have a system which the child can use to get into college to show they were a cheer leader once a week after school to help an otherwise smart child who has no support in the home.  In many cases you will see a child turn around.  It just comes down to cheer leading for the child.

In other cases there are real learning problems which can be 100% resolved with tools over the course of a year.  You are then done and the child will be on their way to a successful education.  Other children have permanent problems.

YOU MAY NOT KNOW

BISD'S basic problem is a lack of investment in spacial needs and training.  I am happy for the kids I helped. They are now protected.  Because IDEA schools are getting away with blatant discrimination against children who need help, I would never recommend  IDEA school to any parent.  My source on this is a principal looking to leave IDEA because of the discrimination.

From congress down there is nothing but budget cuts in education.  This is where a good Board comes into play.  I get all school boards are facing budget cuts.  But I measure the Board's by how they deal with the cuts.  BISD, like so many other schools take away from those most in need first.

I am not against athletics.  In many cases it is good athletic programs which keep some kids in school.  It is about balance.

I am extremely happy with how things came out for both of these kids.  It takes a lot to shock me, but even I was shocked by how BISD showed me they are taking my complaints seriously.

SO WHERE ARE WE?

Well I BISD to move forward with me as part of the team as a volunteer only to help fix the problem.  Teachers should not be afraid to ask for help for children who need it.  BISD Administrators are not helping in this area.  Teachers should not fear for their jobs or transfer because they push to get a child help.  And like I said sometimes it may be something as simple as an intervention to get the child a cheer leader peer at school and after school to help with homework.  The problem could be a parent who does not know how to help their child with homework, or simple does not care.

Each child is different.  We need to help teachers identify the different children and the best initial interventions to help them.

The ball is in BISD's hand.  If we can work together as team to improve things, I would rather be a volunteer team player.  I think BISD knows I am very well versed in this area in terms of education and the law.  They know at this time I am a free resource.  We shall see what they do.
