"I HAVE A DREAM" BY DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING JR.

I do not care if it is the teachers or the BISD Administration who decides on the days off. All the worse if it is the teachers, because they should know better and by their actions come across as racists who care more about their days off, than respect for a man who understood we are a nation of ideals and not the color of our skin.

By BISD not honoring Dr. King, to you begin to understand how Cesar de Leon became a racist, and our community is okay with it.  We should not be ashamed of Cesar de Leon, but by our lack of caring in standing our ground until he resigns.  We should be ashamed for buying a newspaper which for money accepted an ad defending Cesar de Leon's racist rant.

Please take the time to learn the lesson Dr. King tried to teach us, because as a community we clearly do not understand it.

Teachers do not create the calendars, they only vote on them. If school is held on MLK holiday, it is because the BISD does not include it the calendars to vote on. Teachers don’t get a choice. Please set the record straight and don’t blame teachers.

So what you are saying is the teachers in protest could have voted no, and decided not to. There reason I used the word "or", is because every time the teachers schelude comes up in a story, the adminsitration blames the teachers for the calender. But this is finally the truth. The administration creates the calender and the teachers refuse to vote no in protest to the lack of MLK being off.

I'm not okay with what Cesar De Leon said, but he has the freedom to his opinions...He regrets what he said and we all have made mistakes. I myself had made similar remarks in my lifetime. I hope we all can live together in harmony no matter the color of our skin.

"Teachers do not create the calendars, they only vote on them."

Incorrect statement. The calendar is created by the Districtwide Educational Improvement Council (DEIC). This council is a committee of teachers, parents and other administrators from each campus. The DEIC member represent each faculty and staff employee from his/her respective school which selected the member to serve in the district council. [Read BISD School Policy BQA (local)].

The DEIC works and presents three or four calendars (options) to the teachers. The teachers will than vote on one option. The option with the greatest number of votes is presented to the Board of Trustees as the option chosen by the teachers for their official approval of the school calendar for the following year.

DEIC Meeting Monday, Oct.17, 2016

Pesentation
3.(added to agenda by motion) Teresa Desaro introduced the way the BISD Calendar is determined and requested volunteers for three afterschool meetings to work on the calendar for the next school year. Volunteers’ names were collected and will be notified of the meeting locations via email.

It was more pressuring than threats for Elizondo to help him get the money he lost out on.

I stand corrected. So, it is the teachers’ fault, not the administrations fault, for not honoring Martin Luther King, Jr.?
