NEW YEARS ALOE VERA FLOWER

While trimming my palms out front this morning, I saw this and see it as a sign of a brighter tomorrow.  Brownsville has a lot of exciting things going on.  We are moving forward despite a bad County Commission and City Commission.  In terms of downtown there are a lot of great private citizens one house at a time remodelling downtown.

My neighborhood was in trouble.  About 8 years ago people started buying up the houses in need of major repairs and now those of us who got in early have a nifty profit on our homes if we choose to sell.  Cowen Terrance remains a good investment, and many of the homes are on a 1/4 acre or on a resaca.

On the corner behind the Hernandez business, right on the feeder road was an old warehouse for a furniture store that had become a blight on the area.  It is nearly remodelled and is going to make the area look a lot better, especially from the highway.

More and more strip store property owners are investing in remodelling the facade of the building thereby making their area look new and renovated.

New apartment and housing construction is everywhere.  The city is moving forward despite its inept city commission.

The unemployment situation goes directly to BISD.  There are an abundant of jobs available in Brownsville, but if you do not have at least a GED, you will not be considered for the job.

I am doing my best in helping with one on one preparation on the computer in my home to train these people to take the GED, and secure them accommodation to take the test.  My fee, zero.  The GED programs in Brownsville are doing nothing to help those in need of one on one instruction or accommodation which is why they drop out of the GED program, and remain unemployed, under employed, or turn to crime just to feed their family.

Years ago I went to UTB College of Education and asked that they set up a clinic for the Masters and PhD students to certify those in need of a GED for special accommodation during the test taking.  I got a resounding no.  The clinic would have given the students practical experience while helping the Community.

BISD never did a thing to help these students who now remain unemployed or under employed because they cannot get a job without a GED.  The BISD GED program is a joke.  There is no start date or end date.  Instruction is random from day to day.  This is not how you learn.

Mike Hernandez's GED program is not accredited by the Texas Work Force Commission so you as an unemployed person have to pay for the test.

I HAVE LEARNED PRIVATE CITIZENS WHO KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING, CAN DO MORE THAN ANY ELECTED OFFICIAL, SO LONG AS THEY ARE NOT DOING IT FOR SELF PROMOTION

BISD is so bad, after two months of demanding a special ARD meeting, and the teacher blaming the BISD Administration as to why no special ARD meeting can be scheduled, the little boy continues to fail and comes home crying.  So now next week we will go to the TEA and file a complaint.  BISD will blame everyone but themselves and immediately schedule the Special ARD.  I have been doing this for years.  In my view since IDEA is building 5 more schools in Brownsville, it is time to just shudder BISD and be done with it and allow IDEA to become our new school district.  I am helping as many parents as possible to move their children into IDEA.

BISD should consider selling off some of its elementary schools to pay down the bonds.  It should be done in coordination with where IDEA wants to build.
