I have said over and over again if you want to get anything done you need to do it outside of Brownsville.

Several Excerpts from the Herald.  Mr. Cortez has proven all of the nasty unverified made out of pure ignorance to be wrong.  Please stop reading the blogs.

"The Cesar E. Chavez Legacy and Educational Foundation has honored District 2 Texas State Board of Education member Ruben Cortez of Brownsville with the 2017 Cesar Chavez Spirit Award for Leadership.

"The CECLEF has a long history of social advocacy. It was established to preserve the life and legacy of Cesar E. Chavez, the legendary American labor leader and civil rights activist.

“Through SBOE member Cortez’s continuous advocacy, leadership and uncanny ability to bring clarity and focus to political battles, the topics that matter most to Texans and the future of our children have been better approached by the Texas State Board of Education,” said Isidro Garza Jr., a CECLEF board member.
“He has been a policy-oriented champion for proper depictions of minorities in textbooks, strengthened educational resources and proper educational standards,” Garza added. “Cortez’s foresight and willingness to reach across the political aisle for the greater good of our nation embodies the essence of the Cesar E. Chavez legacy and solidified him as our Spirit Award for Leadership champion.”
Cortez was instrumental in proposing a Mexican American Studies textbook for statewide use, and then ensuring that the state board reject it when the only textbook submitted for approval was rife with factual errors and anti-Hispanic bias"
Mr. Cortez with a GED is clearly better equipped to deal with these issues, than any of the PhD's at BISD.  Knowledge is acquired from hands on experience, and not from a text book written by someone with  an agenda, and not actual knowledge.

I am not the one who gave him the award, so lodge your complaint with the Cesar Chavez organization. Your IP address has you in Dallas. I have fought tooth and nail with the PhD's at BISD for 13 years for special needs children. We win every battle, but the PhD's refuse to change course which is why nothing is fixed. You seem like the typical self loathing Mexican American who believes he taugh mexican American studies he knows what is happening in Brownsville. Plus really are you a five you old challenging me to post your comment. You want your comment posted, then post evidence proving me wrong about BISD. It has been 13 years of absolute Board discord, lawsuits, and even recruiting a convicted felon to manipulate elections. The only thing I have seen change at BISD is more and more parents fleeing BISD for Idea. Now deal with my claim and then your post will get through, but living in Dallas you do not seem to give a rats ass how Mexican American children are being denied an education. I do.
