BRAGGING LEADS TO KARMA- DAY OFF FOR COLD

Do not brag about having made it through the season with only one cold.  I did, and the second one started Thursday.  There is no fever.  I cannot take any cold remedy because I cannot take acetaminophen.  The cough is the worst part.  I am doing a lot of lemon water, and making special teas.  Later I will try and make a chicken caldo with herbs I know work.  Turmeric and Mexican Oregano are very good for you.  Fresh ginger, lemon and Cinnamon tea is also good.  Back to bed.  I was up all night coughing.

A MUST HEAR IN EVERY SCHOOL - ANTI-BULLYING SONG WRITTEN AND SUNG BY THE VICTIM

IS THE WRITING ON THE WALL?

I am not a mall shopper unless what I want can only be bought at the mall, such as "Build a Bear."  Part of the story concerning Sears I am dumping because although two different people told me Sears no longer opens at 10, when you call the store they say they open at 10.

But I can say Sears, JCP, and Dillards have all laid off people and cut employee hours and benefits.  Sears earlier announced the closing of stores, Brownsville was not on that list.  Today JCP announced it is closing 140 stores. JCP's is saying they are looking at sales and needed upgrades at individual stores in deciding which will be closed.

PAY ATTENTION MALL OWNERS AND COB

The stores doing well all over the country have lots of sales, coupons, and massive discounts.  JCP has good coupons and sales.  I will tell you my family tells me we have more open cashiers in Brownsville than they do at the JCP at the mall near them.  But the lines are always long.  Customer service on the floor is non-existent.

The number of full time employees with benefits has shrunk big time.  College students or anyone else getting 20 hours with no benefits are never going to be invested in the store.  This is a fact.  JCP like Sears is one of those chains with long term customers who came to know the sales associates, and the associates knew them and their needs.  This was the draw.  Well the change in how we shop forced that model to be abandoned in favor of employees who are not invested in the stores or customers.

THE ANSWER

I think we are safe in Brownsville because a lot of Mexican nationals shop at JCP and Sears.  As a community we also do not shop high end stores.  I will admit I find shopping on line to be cheaper and easier.  The new pump I just bought for my pool is a good $200 more if I buy it locally versus Amazon.

The Mall owners and the City need to meet with JCP and Sears and offer any tax breaks or help available to show corporate that we are serious about their presence in Brownsville.  If we lose either, the Mall will be on life support.  But I know our leaders, they will wait until JCP or Sears close their local stores and then say "oh well."

DEMOCRATS SILENCE VIETNAMESE REFUGEE WHO IS NOW A REPUBLICAN STATE SENATOR IN CALIFORNIA

This was wrong when the Republicans silenced Senator Warren, an in some ways even worse that this refugee from Vietnam was silenced by the Democrats for giving an alternative view of someone the Senate celebrated days earlier who the Vietnamese do not look upon favorably.  Her constituents who the speech belongs to need to sue the Democratic Senate of California for denying them a voice.

Are so many of you die hard Democrats still confused why so many people just could not vote Democrat?  I'm not.  Freedom of speech if the cornerstone of our freedom.

"SACRAMENTO — Republican state lawmakers are decrying what they call a free-speech violation after Sen. Janet Nguyen, a Republican from Southern California, was forcibly removed from the Senate floor on Thursday morning during an attempt to criticize the late California Sen. Tom Hayden.

The unusual scene, captured on a cellphone video, shows the Vietnamese-American lawmaker being led from the floor by Capitol security officers.
Nguyen, who fled communist Vietnam with her family in the early 1980s when she was a young child, is critical of Hayden’s anti-Vietnam War activism. Hayden, who died in October, is a polarizing figure in the Vietnamese-American community, as is his former wife, actress Jane Fonda, who was widely accused during the Vietnam War of giving “aid and comfort” to the North Vietnamese enemy.  Hayden was memorialized in the Assembly earlier in the week.

FRED MARTINEZ OUT ON DISTRICT THREE RACE

My understanding is based on a discussion with the lawyers in the election office at the SOS. Texas has no ballot access law for petitions related to city commission races. Therefore if the city adopts a petition process, the city charter governs not state law since there is no state law on the issue. Brownsville's Charter is quite abusive. Dallas requires only 25 signatures to get on the ballot. Other cities require 1/2 of 1 % of the votes received by the mayor in the previous election. In this case it would mean a bit more than 50. Fred is at about 90, and Brownsville requires 100. So he is out. All races are now down to two candidates.

FLIPPING THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES IN 2018

It is way too early to know what will happen in 2018.  But I was shocked to learn the following from CNN:  "It's not a crazy idea. Republicans control the House by 24 votes, and there are 23 Republican House members whose districts voted for Democrat Hillary Clinton in November, providing a tempting target for Dems."

Click for CNN:

White House press secretary Spicer and Trump can keep the narrative going that these town hall protesters are by paid trouble makers. Delusional beliefs tend to work to the opposing side's advantage. Yes my dear, it is fake news there are not enough life boats on the Titanic.

THE MIRACLE OF POPE FRANCIS

You know when non-Catholics and atheist say they love this Pope you know he is doing something right.  His latest words to Catholics who do not live the teachings of the Church which are angering the false Catholics.

""There are those who say 'I am very Catholic, I always go to Mass, I belong to this and that association'," .... .

"He said that some of these people should also say "'my life is not Christian, I don't pay my employees proper salaries, I exploit people, I do dirty business, I launder money, (I lead) a double life'."

ARKANSAS US REPUBLICAN SENATOR COTTON SHOUTED DOWN BY CONSTITUENTS AT TOWN HALL

In the first video Senator Cotton is shouted down and told to do his job after he dismissed a question on the repeal of the Affordable Care Act.

Here is a hard core reality, it was the Republicans and Conservative Think Tanks during the Clinton Administration demanding a mandate, a requirement they then opposed when Obama agreed to their demands. The number one issue the Republicans cite for repealing the ACA is costs.  Well newsflash for all of you factually challenged Republicans, the insurance companies are raising the costs of the insurance not the government.  The only way to stop this is through federal regulations and the Republicans will never do that.

The only solution when it comes to costs is to allow people to chose between buying their own insurance or entering a one payer system.  It has been proven time and time again the cost of managing medicare is significantly less than the cost of managing an insurance company.  Medicare does not have to pay stock holders dividends or worry about stock holders replacing the Board of Directors because profits are not high enough.  There is no other solution.  It is that simple.

And I do not want to hear the stupid Republican mantra, "keep the government out of my healthcare." The government and insurance companies decide everything about your healthcare.  ERISA federal law has been around for decades and regulates your healthcare.  Paper pushers at insurance companies decided if you live or die.  So please get an education, or just shut up and sit down.

The insurance companies help push to define when certain procedures are defined by protocol.  Then they cite the protocols they pushed for to deny you the procedure.  Unfortunately, medicare, medicaid, Tricare, and the VA follow the same protocols lobbied for by the insurance companies, and patients die every day because the insurance companies and their lobbied for protocols are deciding if you live or die and not your doctor.

The BV is open to anyone willing to write a piece explaining so long as insurance companies are in control how it is possible to hold down rates.  Universal coverage by its nature forces higher rates.  So unless you want to deny coverage to the sickest of the sick you have no solution.  Even a right wing economist understands it is a numbers game.  The more people you have buying the insurance the more the cost for the sick is spread out among the many.  A system where based on your income you buy into a one payer system, will allow for the costs to be spread out a lot more than if you have it being done piece meal one insurance company at a time.  This is all fact, and your alternative fact approach because you have no solution will not change reality.

THE SECOND VIDEO IS MY FAVORITE - A LITTLE BOY DEFENDS HIS MEXICAN FRIENDS AND THEIR FAMILIES

This little boy reminds me of Grisham's book "The Painted House" which takes place in Arkansas. It is a short book which basically shows the issue is not new. It also shows children sometimes are the one who can show us the proper path.

A CENTURY OF DISARRAY

This OPED from the NYT's is a must read.  The OPED focuses in on the 21st century and no one person or Party.  I like the fact that if the author is accurate he is honest in depicting that the economy grew a lot slower under President Obama, than during the last century.  But note the economy still underwent a major recovery from the Bush II years.

I do not like when all millennials are depicted as the same.  I have a grand nephew who will graduate high school this year who works his butt off, and has taken advantage of all the high tech educational opportunities NY offers its students, while most of his friends just glided through school.  My point is, some millennials are working hard to be successful. Some are not.

This is a must read  from the NYT.  I quote only one part which stood out for me as to what we need to do to fix a problem created my both Parties and people of all backgrounds and ages,

" The Eberstadt piece confirms one thought: The central task for many of us now is not to resist Donald Trump. He’ll seal his own fate. It’s to figure out how to replace him — how to respond to the slow growth and social disaffection that gave rise to him with some radically different policy mix."

Click for Post

What I like about this is, it is time to stop whining about Trump and look for solutions.  People voted for him for a reason.  So now it is time to address the valid complaints and look for policies which we can bring forward with new leadership, even if it means a new political Party, which is what I favor.

COB DECLARES ALFREDO "FRED" MARTINEZ OUT OF THE RACE TO REPLACE PORTILLO

UPDATE:

Upon meeting with city officials this morning, Fred Martinez was informed he was no longer short 44 valid signatures, but was now only short 6.  He still does not know the names they are challenging.  If he is not qualified by the morning, he will ask for that list and begin to work on the verification process himself.

ORIGINAL POST

Fred Martinez is adamant the city is wrong in declaring more than a 1/3rd of his signatures invalid. He claims he personally knows about 80% of the people who signed the form and they live in his district and are registered voters.  All he needs is 20 or so of the signatures verified as correct to get his name back on the ballot.

I have no idea who is right and who is wrong, but I do know the clock is ticking which is why you never file on the last day.  It is my understanding Fred wants his attorney to review the matter instead of simply asking the city for a the names of the rejected signatures. I have no idea what he will do, but I know from experience in a case like this tasking someone else to do the job you should be doing is the fastest way to failure.  Election law is very time sensitive.  You cannot be off by a second.

LEARNING TO THINK FOR YOURSELF IS HOW WE ARE GOING TO CHANGE BROWNSVILLE

Side note, the COB web page shows an Alfredo "Fred" Martinez has entered the race for the seat currently held by Debbie Portillo who is not running.  For now pending approval of signatures by the city this race will be the only race with more than 2 candidates.  There are 4 possible candidates at this time, pending verifications of signatures.

I did interview Fred.  He will be an under dog, but his focus is looking at the models of other cities which have revived their down towns.  He speaks fluidly about how other cities have revitalized their down towns and has actually taken the time to visit these cities to study and learn about the models.

His goal is to block walk a community every week with push cards.  He is hoping the one on one face time with him will make a difference.  It could get him into the run-offs.  There is still speculation as to who the mayor and Carlos Marin are backing, but the speculation seems to be almost certain.

The BV will hold until it has more proof.

Assuming the COB approves Fred Martinez's application, the BV will have more.  This is not an endorsement, it is just information for our consideration.

THE BROWNSVILLE CITY ELECTION

The number one question I get is why did I stopped covering the city election?  What is there to cover?

The Texas Supreme Court is known for overruling the U.S. Supreme Court or simply ignoring its rulings.  In Texas only Rose Gowen or the City can challenge Erasmo Castro's candidacy.  This is contrary to the Supreme Court's ruling in Anderson v. Celebreeze, 460 U.S. 780, 806 (1983)

"We began our inquiry by noting that our primary concern is not the interest of candidate Anderson, but rather, the interests of the voters who chose to associate together to express their support for Anderson's candidacy and the views he espoused. Under any realistic appraisal, the "extent and nature" of the burdens Ohio has placed on the voters' freedom of choice and freedom of association, in an election of nationwide importance, unquestionably outweigh the State's minimal interest in imposing a March deadline."

The interest belongs to the people.  Now some have said the ruling was limited to Presidential races - false - the Court in detail discussed the interests as the people's and the fundamental rights related to elections which belong to the people.  They merely said way into the opinion the interest is hightened when it impacts a national election, like for president.

Rose Gowen has the blind female vote, and the money and machine of Tony Martinez and Carlos Marin.  Mike Hernandez will not cross Carlos Marin so he will stand behind Rose Gowen, a well known Brownsville villain.

So here is Rose's predicament, does she directly challenge Castro's place on the ballot now based on a claim he is a convicted felon - this is a  question of law because tecnically on paper he is not, except the courts have found that piece of paper in other cases to be void.

If Gowen fails to act now, it will do her no good later once she has lost.  Then only the city commission can vote to have Castro's win declared a legal nullity because he was not qualified to run or hold office.  Castro is playing with fire and his own future.

I know the system.  Gowenites will tell her to not take action because it will make her look bad and she will listen.  Many a candidate has regretted such advice.

John Villarreal again will have the Martinez machine, which means Carlos Marin.  Mike Hernandez will not cross Carlos Marin.  And besides, Ben Neece is costing Mike Hernandez time and money by representing Jerry McHale who Mike is suing.

The third race is anyone's guess.  We have to wait and see the first campaign finance reports.  They will actually tell us nothing because it is too easy for the candidates to hide their donations until the report just before the election.  So this is going to take some independent investigation which does not include rumor has it so and so was seen with so and so.

The Herald will run cover for Gowen and Villarreal so it will take a lot of mail outs about John Villarreal's voting record in order for Ben Neece to overcome the Martinez/Marin machine. Outside downtown businesses, and bars no one knows Ben Neece, except for negative press.  The reality is I doubt most people in his district have even heard of John Villarreal.

So my question is, what is there to cover?  Nothing new for the city will come from this election.  The cards are stacked against the people, and to be frank, we really are not being given much of a choice.  The Brownsville city commission is looked upon as a circus of clowns and the best of the best simply have no interest in running.

Where was Mike Hernandez with his promise to recruit good candidates.  He has been too busy promoting himself with self-serving commercials and trying to silence the press.

SENATOR JOHN MCCAIN ON SHUTTING DOWN A FREE PRESS

No matter how much Mike Hernandez and OP 1033 hates the reporting of the truth about him and his acts and incompetence in the political arena, the BV will continue to cover it. I am assuming Barton will also continue to cover it. But McHale and Montoya have been shut down. The Brownsville Voice cannnot be bought and Mike Hernandez will never forgive me for refusing his offer of money in exchange for endorsing his candidates for the Port Election .

AFTER TRUMP LIES ABOUT AN ORTHODOX JEWISH REPORTER'S QUESTION AND CALLS HIM A LIAR, 11 BOMBS THREATS ARE MADE AGAINST JEWISH CENTERS

Trump fails to understand his anger and words can impact how people react. I chose this video because the speaker makes clear the Jewish reporter went out of his way to say there is no evidence Trump or his administration are anti-Semitic.  All the reporter wanted to know is what is the Trump Administration going to do about the up tic of threats against Jewish centers.  Trump called the reporter a liar for claiming he was going to ask a simple question, which Trump considered this to not be a simple question.  It actually is, "we will not have it, our policy will be zero tolerance for such conduct against Jewish Americans."

Trump then lied and made it appear as if the reporter was accusing him of being anti-Semitic,  The exact opposite of what the reporter said.  Because the reporter is true to his faith he later made excuses for Trump saying he was just reacting to the negative press.  But Trump is the president and should be able to handle an honest and simple question without turning it into something about himself.

Yesterday there were 11 reported bomb threats against Jewish Centers.

So Mr. President, again what is your Administration's response to this up tic in anti-Semitism.  Groups which support you Mr. President are tied to white supremacist and Neo-Nazi organizations.  What say you to these supporters?

"THERE BUT FOR THE GRACE OF GOD GO I"

This one is going to make a lot of people mad.  When the Republicans especially women say they are pro life they are pathological liars.  They march to protect the fetus, which I support, but once the baby is born the motto of so many Republican women is let them starve and die from disease.

FOR YOU MEN OUT THERE WHO NEED THAT BLUE PILL KNOWN THIS

The chemical engineer who discovered Viagra was a Nicaraguan refugee.  Just think of where you would be without that refugee?

A cousin of mine was abandoned at age 12 by his parents with our aunt as the only alternative to being forced into the Sandinista Army in Nicaragua. My uncle such as his father was a very successful banker, but money could not buy his son freedom.  So they came to the US on a travel visa, and went back without their son.  In time when my aunt could not care for him an Order of priests took him in as a sanctuary.  He eventually became legal after graduating college and now works for a successful magazine.

BUT FAR TOO REPUBLICAN WOMEN WOULD HAVE SAID - MAN UP SON YOU ARE 12 GO DIE FOR THE SANDINISTAS

A real mother, would do anything to save their children.  Far too many Republican women would allow their children to die.  Now if you say no  -  bullshit, unless you think you are better than the blacks and browns fleeing countries all over the world to protect their children.

THE RACIST JOURNALISTS, ESPECIALLY THE BLACKS AND LATINOS

To keep their jobs they allow the Anglo controlled press to continue with the narrative that the undocumented workers problem is limited to browns and blacks.  Why do we not discuss the illegal Irish and Polish immigrants, and for that matter the undocumented Anglo Russians and Eastern Europeans..

"There are an estimated 50,000 Irish citizens living and working illegally in the United States -- a tiny sliver of the undocumented population, but a considerable number for a home country of just 4.5 million people.

Click for Washington Post

The Polish problem was only referenced during the campaign because Trump was caught up hiring undocumented Polish workers.  Had the issue not been raised to embarrass Trump no one would have known about the problem.

The Eastern European and Russian mafia problem is a major problem in NYC and spreading to other cities.  Many are undocumented.  But you do not read about their criminal organizations.  But then they are white.

REFUGEES FLEEING FOR CANADA

How can any mother accept a policy which forces a family to drag their children through knee deep snow to get into Canada to avoid deportation?  Refugees are facing amputation of fingers from frostbite.  Children are falling in the snow and freezing.  They do this rather than being deported back to a country where death is near certain.

Thousands of middle class Hondurans have come to the US legally on a visa, and stayed because they could no longer afford the protection they had to pay to the drug cartels or deal with death if they refused to give up their sons to fight for the cartels.

'THERE BUT FOR THE GRACE OF GOD GO I"  Absolute shame on all of you Republican mothers turning a blind eye to this reality.  I am so glad none of you are my mother or father, because I know my parents would have done anything necessary to protect us.  But by your own actions in supporting the anti-undocumented immigrant problem you support the death of children and entire families.

I GET IT

I understand and in many cases understand why and especially women could not vote for Hillary Clinton.  To be honest if I had a daughter, I would not want her to look to Hillary as our first female president.  I understand the many failures of the Democratic Party and why you could not vote Democrat.  In most cases I agree with you.  I do not deny the reality of the failures of the Democratic Party.  While I believe in a safety net, the Democrats create institutional generational poverty.  It is inhumane to support such policies.  But at least I do not deny the short comings of the Democratic Party.

Okay, I get it, it was a hard choice.  But one choice was to just not vote.  Another choice is to demand the impeachment of Trump.  I can live with Mike Pence as president.  He understands Congress and the process.  We may end up disagreeing on many policies, but Pence understands the process and at least will have respect for our laws and institutions.

To Republican women, I defy you to go to the refugee centers and tell these women to go home even if it means their children dying.  You will not, because you are cowards.

THOMAS JEFFERSON LECTURES KING ON IMMIGRATION

Thomas Jefferson in his reasoning to justify the Independence of the Colonies from England cited the following breach on immigration by the King as a basis for our Independence from England.

"He has endeavoured to prevent the population of these States; for that purpose obstructing the Laws for Naturalization of Foreigners; refusing to pass others to encourage their migrations hither, and raising the conditions of new Appropriations of Lands.

NYT, USEFUL IDIOTS, AN OPED BY PAUL KRUGMAN
Just click on title above and it will open up to the original.  I have no idea why it is post this way. But just click on top on NYT

On Wednesday an editorial in The Times described Donald Trump as a “useful idiot” serving Russian interests. That may not be exactly right. After all, useful idiots are supposed to be unaware of how they’re being used, but Mr. Trump probably knows very well how much he owes to Vladimir Putin. Remember, he once openly appealed to the Russians to hack Hillary Clinton’s emails.
Still, the general picture of a president-elect who owes his position in part to intervention by a foreign power, and shows every sign of being prepared to use U.S. policy to reward that power, is accurate.
But let’s be honest: Mr. Trump is by no means the only useful idiot in this story. As recent reporting by The Times makes clear, bad guys couldn’t have hacked the U.S. election without a lot of help, both from U.S. politicians and from the news media.
Let me explain what I mean by saying that bad guys hacked the election. I’m not talking about some kind of wild conspiracy theory. I’m talking about the obvious effect of two factors on voting: the steady drumbeat of Russia-contrived leaks about Democrats, and only Democrats, and the dramatic, totally unjustified last-minute intervention by the F.B.I., which appears to have become a highly partisan institution, with distinct alt-right sympathies.
Does anyone really doubt that these factors moved swing-state ballots by at least 1 percent? If they did, they made the difference in Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania — and therefore handed Mr. Trump the election, even though he received almost three million fewer total votes. Yes, the election was hacked.
By the way, people who respond to this observation by talking about mistakes in Clinton campaign strategy are missing the point, and continuing their useful idiocy. All campaigns make mistakes. Since when do these mistakes excuse subversion of an election by a foreign power and a rogue domestic law enforcement agency?
So why did the subversion work?
It’s important to realize that the postelection C.I.A. declaration that Russia had intervened on behalf of the Trump campaign was a confirmation, not a revelation (although we’ve now learned that Mr. Putin was personally involved in the effort).
The pro-Putin tilt of Mr. Trump and his advisers was obvious months before the election — I wrote about it in July. By midsummer the close relationship between WikiLeaks and Russian intelligence was also obvious, as was the site’s growing alignment with white nationalists.
Did Republican politicians, so big on flag waving and impugning their rivals’ patriotism, reject this foreign aid to their cause? No, they didn’t. In fact, as far as I can tell, no major Republican figure was even willing to criticize Mr. Trump when he directly asked Russia to hack Mrs. Clinton.
This shouldn’t come as a surprise. It has long been obvious — except, apparently, to the news media — that the modern G.O.P. is a radical institution that is ready to violate democratic norms in the pursuit of power. Why should the norm of not accepting foreign assistance be any different?
The bigger surprise was the behavior of the news media, and I don’t mean fake news; I mean big, prestigious organizations. Leaked emails, which everyone knew were probably the product of Russian hacking, were breathlessly reported as shocking revelations, even when they mostly revealed nothing more than the fact that Democrats are people.
Meanwhile, the news media dutifully played up the Clinton server story, which never involved any evidence of wrongdoing, but merged in the public mind into the perception of a vast “email” scandal when there was nothing there.
And then there was the Comey letter. The F.B.I. literally found nothing at all. But the letter dominated front pages and TV coverage, and that coverage — by news organizations that surely knew that they were being used as political weapons — was almost certainly decisive on Election Day.
So as I said, there were a lot of useful idiots this year, and they made the election hack a success.
Now what? If we’re going to have any hope of redemption, people will have to stop letting themselves be used the way they were in 2016. And the first step is to admit the awful reality of what just happened.
That means not trying to change the subject to campaign strategy, which is a legitimate topic but has no bearing on the question of electoral subversion. It means not making excuses for news coverage that empowered that subversion.
And it means not acting as if this was a normal election whose result gives the winner any kind of a mandate, or indeed any legitimacy beyond the bare legal requirements. It might be more comfortable to pretend that things are O.K., that American democracy isn’t on the edge. But that would be taking useful idiocy to the next level.

BLACK VERSUS GAY IN THE U.S. AND FREE SPEECH

ADDENDUM:

WHY ON ORIGINAL INTENT DO THE REPUBLICAN SUPREME COURT JUSTICES CHANGE LEGISLATIVE LAW ON CIVIL RIGHTS BASED ON CHANGING TIMES, BUT CLAIM IT IS JUDICIAL ACTIVISM TO VIEW LIBERTY IN THE CONTEXT OF CURRENT TIMES?

If you know the history of civil rights enforcement by the Supreme Court, the Republicans have consistently cut into the law and pulled back claiming changing times.  In the first major case Justice Sandra Day O'Connor reasoned after 25 years of affirmative action, it is hard to claim blacks are still in the same place they were in 25 years earlier.  Now many of us can agree with this concept, but if the Republicans truly believe in upholding the law as written the Republicans should have ignored the changes over the 25 years and kept with the original intent of the law. They did not.  They looked to modern facts.

But when it comes to liberty they claim you cannot look to modern times and our liberty is locked in to what it meant in 1791.  The fact our Founding Fathers were influenced by the great minds from the Age of Enlightenment means nothing to the Republicans on the Supreme Court, save Justice Kennedy.  But if original intent really matters, they would know most of the great minds understood liberty is a fluid concept which changes over time.  So it is not even a concept of original intent, it is a concept of come up with a good sounding term and the ignorant will follow.

ORIGINAL POST

It angers me quite a bit when black people say gays do not fall in the same category for civil rights protection as blacks. Having said that, the times when many laws were created to in reality protect blacks and browns are not the same as today.

I do not buy into the argument that based on your religious beliefs you should be allowed to refuse to do business with anyone who offends your religious believes.  Hate and ignorance can never be based on religion,  This is why so many of us even reject the term radicalized Muslim.  They are not Muslims,  They are using the Muslim faith to justify their hatred.

BUT WITH TIMES DIFFERENT SPEECH MUST BE AFFORDED MORE PROTECTION IN THE BALANCE BETWEEN CIVIL RIGHTS  AND FREE SPEECH

"The highest court in Washington state says a florist violated the state's anti-discrimination law when she refused to provide floral services to a gay couple."

Click for BBC

One time a nurse came to me as a client.  After abortions her job was to  reassemble the baby to insure no parts were left in the woman.  I refused representation.  It was not a question of she had no other choices for a place to work, everyone is always hiring nurses.  She chose to be a nurse at this abortion clinic.  When people have real choices, the government should not be allowed to tell me with whom I must do business.

Before the major positive turn in the civil rights movement, blacks and for that matter browns were kept out of hotels and restaurants.  My father in 46' was asked to leave a restaurant in Houston because my mother was dark skinned.  It was a challenge for blacks and browns to find hotels and restaurants.  The government had no choice but to intervene.

But today, the idea a florist should be forced to do business with someone who offends them is ridiculous in most cases.  The law needs to be adjusted.  If it were a question of only one florist in a town who can handle the job, I might understand the law, but when a customer has so many choices to what end do we need this law, as written.  I believe what happened to the couple in this story is wrong.

It does not end here.  Within the gay community [the current acronym for all non-heterosexuals grows by the minute so I use gay to refer to all non-heterosexuals] there is a radicalization among its leadership which goes back to the beginning.  These self anointed leaders do not represent me or most gay people.  I have fought them hard.

THE RADICALIZED INTOLERANT SELF ANOINTED LEADERS WITHIN THE GAY COMMUNITY

I have fought them for over 30 years and will continue to fight them.  Over the holidays a niece and nephew tried to explain to me that it is basically safer to be gay in rural Mississippi than NYC.  No, they have been brain washed by the radicals within the movement.  When I hear they are suffering hardships my generation could not imagine and we did not fight hard enough, my brain wants to explode.

I remember being told maybe 35 years ago by the Dallas Gay Alliance that bi-sexuality was a mental illness.  We spent years fighting over whether to change the name to the Dallas Gay and Lesbian Alliance.  We were called out as trouble makers for wanting inclusion.  When we called for a boycott of the clubs which refused to admit women, they called for a boycott of our businesses for starting trouble.  They did the same when we called for a boycott of the clubs until blacks and browns were hired as bartenders instead of just bar backs.  They opposed our fight against gay youth suicide claiming it made us appear to be pedophiles.  They opposed the creation of Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays.  Boy they came running when every politico called on us and the press was all over us with positive press.

A GAY JOURNALIST WITH OUT MAGAZINE GOES CONSERVATIVE AFTER BEING  BEING MISTREATED FOR WRITING AN ARTICLE ABOUT A GAY CONSERVATIVE

" Although the Out story didn’t take a positive stance — or any stance — on Yiannopoulos, Moore found himself pilloried by fellow Democrats and ostracized by longtime friends,:
"Upon seeing me, a friend who normally greets me with a hug and kiss pivoted and turned away.
Frostiness spread far beyond the bar, too. My best friend, with whom I typically hung out multiple times per week, was suddenly perpetually unavailable. Finally, on Christmas Eve, he sent me a long text, calling me a monster, asking where my heart and soul went, and saying that all our other friends are laughing at me."
Free speech means giving all perspectives a voice to be heard. I have zero use for Yiannopoulos.  But people like him exist in the gay community.  We need to learn about who he is and why he acts and speaks as he does if we are to defeat him.  But silencing him or anyone who writes about him is not an option.  And not for nothing, OUT Magazine approved the article, but is held innocent in this controversy.  Why?
I moderate out hate speech and vulgarities.  If you want to put your name to it and own your words they may find a place on the BV, because then we will have someone we can call out by name, instead of an anonymous coward spreading hate and vulgarities.

I WANT A PIANO BAR ON THE FIRST FLOOR OF EL JARDIN WITH FINE DINING AND THIS KIND OF MUSIC

I have loved this song for some 35 years since I first heard it. For those who never learned French - it is so good in French - how did you never learn French? Just by living you can learn foreign languages. Anyway for the French illiterate [lol - I am trying to be French like - but I still love the song]

 No, absolutely nothing
No, I regret nothing
Neither the good that’s been done to me,
Nor the bad; it is all the same!

No, absolutely nothing,
No, I regret nothing.
It is paid for, swept up, forgotten
I don’t give a damn about the past!

With my memories
I lit up the fire.
My shame, my pleasures,
I no longer need them.

Swept up love affairs,
And all of their faltering,
Swept up forever,
I start again from scratch

No, absolutely nothing
No, I regret nothing.
Neither the good that has been done to me,
Nor the bad; it is all the same

No, absolutely nothing,
No, I regret nothing.
Because my life, because my joy,
Today, start with you.

Tony Bennett and a lot others will also do.

A YEAR IN THE MAKING - DOOR ONE OF THREE

Today the other two doors will be installed.  These doors are windstorm certified which can withstand 140 mph winds.  The glass is also energy efficient so I will save on my AC bill, and if the program still exists, receive a $500.00 rebate from the BPUB.  I already have the proper paint and they will be painted this weekend.  God these doors are so much better than the 38 year old sliding glass doors which allowed the wind and dust through and had no working locks.

THOMAS JEFFERSON LECTURES KING ON IMMIGRATION AND JUDICIAL REVIEW

Thomas Jefferson in his reasoning to justify the Independence of the Colonies from England cited the following breach on immigration by the King as a basis for our Independence from England.

"He has endeavoured to prevent the population of these States; for that purpose obstructing the Laws for Naturalization of Foreigners; refusing to pass others to encourage their migrations hither, and raising the conditions of new Appropriations of Lands.

He has obstructed the Administration of Justice by refusing his Assent to Laws for establishing Judiciary Powers."

TRUMP ENDS OWN TERM, "THE AMERICAN HORROR STORY"

Interestingly enough, the FX series which starts filming the Falls season in June, "The American Horror Story," will focus on the 2016, Presidential election.

This is going to make Watergate look like child's play.  The Republicans are fractured over Trump.  Some are demanding full hearings on the Russian connection, while others are trying to silence those leaking information on Trump by demanding hearings on the leaks, instead of the breach to national security.

The Republicans not the Democrats took down Michael Flynn and the Republicans went anti-Trump forcing his Labor Secretary nominee to withdraw.  The desire for power trumps, Trump.  The Republicans care more about their own power than they do Trump.

The Democrats are driven to force U.S. Attorney Jeff Sessions to remove himself from the investigation.  They along with some Republicans want FBI Director Comey out of the investigation. Trump and his lemminstic followers will take this to the bloody end.  He thinks he is still running his business and fails to understand the press, and government insiders are out for blood.  The leaks will continue until they destroy Jeff Sessions and FBI Director Comey thereby forcing a real independent investigation.

Trump cannot extricate himself from this mess so he will remain distracted with cover-up instead of his agenda.

I have no idea how long it will take for Trump to leave office, but it is not possible he will complete a full term.  There will come a point where no one will be able to manage him and the fall into the abyss known as Trump will be inevitable.

Trump still does not understand government insiders run the government and not him.  They have every document.  Anti-Trump outside forces will hack the FBI, DOJ and CIA and then release everything.  Trump is using so much political capital at this time, he may not have anything left for his Supreme Court nominee.

MICHAEL FLYNN IS THE SMALL STORY, TRUMP RUSSIAN AND CHINA ARE THE BIG STORY

UPDATE: CNN CATCHES UP WITH THE BV:

"And in the final days of the campaign, FBI Director James Comey released a letter which essentially reopened an investigation into Hillary Clinton's emails once again -- based on....well, nothing. Turned out those Anthony Weiner emails had nothing to do with Hillary Clinton's case. But the damage was done.

It should be noted that Comey apparently knew about the Trump operatives' contacts with the Russians. But somehow that never leaked. The contrast between how Comey handled the Clinton case and how he handled the Trump-Russia case boggles the mind."

Click for CNN

Can you now see why Trump wants Comey to continue to oversee this mess?  Comey knew about the Trump/Russian problem and said nothing before the election, but his department leaked the bogus Clinton emails.

LET'S BEGIN WITH CHINA

From the Washington Post:

"Donald Trump’s protocol-breaking telephone call with Taiwan’s leader was an intentionally provocative move that establishes the incoming president as a break with the past, according to interviews with people involved in the planning.
The historic communication — the first between leaders of the United States and Taiwan since 1979 — was the product of months of quiet preparations and deliberations among Trump’s advisers about a new strategy for engagement with Taiwan that began even before he became the Republican presidential nominee, according to people involved in or briefed on the talks."
This call angered China. The issue of a one China policy is meaningless to this story. For years Trump has lost endless legal battles in China over Chinese citizens using his name without his permission to include the sale of toilets.  So after years of loosing every legal battle in China concerning the Trump trademark, Trump angers China by calling the leader of Taiwan knowing it would anger China.

Trump then talks with the head of China and guess what?

From ABC:

"The government of China awarded U.S. President Donald Trump valuable rights to his own name this week, in the form of a 10-year trademark for construction services." ... "The registration this week came as a surprise win for Trump after a decade of trying — and failing — to wrest the rights to his name back from a man named Dong Wei. The abrupt turn in Trump's bureaucratic fortunes once he declared his candidacy has raised questions about the extent to which his political status may be helping his family business."

You can bet all discussion concerning Taiwan is now over.  There will be no more calls from Trump the the leader of Taiwan.  This is what I meant by we need to look at how he does business instead of calling into issue his mental health.

RUSSIA, THE LEAKS AND FBI

Leaks keep Washington honest.  So when the leak hurt Hillary Trump was cool about it, but when the leak reveals his National Security Advisor lied about a meeting with the Russian Ambassador, the concern is the leak,. and not the national security implications.

I do not want posts about the Logan Act.  Everyone agrees it is off the table - a non-issue.

One of Trump's first big announcements was he was keeping FBI Director Comey.  Interesting.  Why?

When the FBI Director at the last minute leaked a claim there were more emails concerning Hillary Clinton Trump was dead silent.  Now to deflect from this mess with Michael Flynn Trumps says.

See NY Daily News

"The real story here is why are there so many illegal leaks coming out of Washington? Will these leaks be happening as I deal on N.Korea etc?" Trump tweeted Tuesday morning."

"Ousted national security adviser Michael Flynn was reportedly interviewed by the FBI about a secretly recorded conversation with a Russian ambassador days after he took office, and the White House acknowledged Tuesday it’s known about the controversy “for weeks.” ... .

"The President seemed more irate with the people who'd leaked the story than with Flynn, however.
