TRUMP THREATENS TO PUT POTENTIALLY A MILLION OR MORE FELONS ON OUR STREETS TO KEEP HIS DEPORTATION PROMISE

I agree it is wrong the U.S. taxpayer pays to keep undocumented workers in our prisons, but the other choice is to deport them to a country which will not put them in jail.  Two significant cases in point.

Most remember the woman in San Francisco who who was shot dead by an undocumented worker.

"The man accused of firing the deadly shot -- 45-year-old Juan Francisco Lopez-Sanchez -- is an undocumented immigrant, a repeat felon who has been deported five times to Mexico, according to immigration officials."

Another story out of El Paso, same problem.

"Washington Post (Free Registration) -- March 8, 2004

Deadly Incompatibility

"In 2000 the Justice Department's inspector general issued a report detailing the disturbing case of Rafael Resendez-Ramirez. Mr. Resendez-Ramirez had been arrested while crossing the Mexican border illegally, and the Border Patrol -- unaware that he was wanted for murder -- had returned him to Mexico. He subsequently sneaked over again and killed several more people before being caught. "AP Internal Use Only

So here is the deal, Trump has promised to deport all of these criminals without a concern in the world within days they will be free and back in the U.S. to kill you.  Donald Trump is either incredibly ignorant, or just lies to get people to like his racism.

We can build a 25 foot cement wall and the next day they will be building 30 foot ladders in Mexico.
No one with knowledge of the facts supports deportation of criminals who then are free to return illegally to the US and commit more crimes, including murder.

Undocumented immigrants who are criminals do not have the same constitutional rights as U.S. citizens if they are in prisons in foreign countries.

I realize people do not like this, but Mexico's President Nieto represented Mexico at Castro's funeral. Many other Latin American leaders attended. These leaders do not deny the human rights abuses, but they also do not deny how he stood up against the US.

Many leaders even from communist countries did not attend because they fear Trump's reaction.  This is sad. But we need Mexico and Trump fails to understand this.  Most of Latin America stands with the U.S. against Maduro in Venezuela, but they will have a hard time working with the U.S. if we get too heavy handed with Latin America. This is why it would have been smarter for everyone to let Castro's passing to pass without notation.

OUR REAL CHOICE

We need Mexico to cooperate with the U.S. if we are to keep these criminals being deported from crossing back into the U.S., a fact oblivious to Trump.

My proposal is we help Mexico to build prisons to their standards to hold the deported criminals. We have the chief security officer being an ICE agent, to insure corruption is kept under control.   But Mexico is not going to work with us or give a crap if these criminals return to the U,S. if we continue with Trump's Big Stick mentality.

The only way we keep these million or so criminals from returning to the US is to incarcerate them in Mexico.  This will not happen unless we make Mexico an equal partner.  Trump will never agree to an equal partnership with Mexico,.  So that sucking sound you will start to hear in late January will be criminals returning to the US to commit crimes against you.

We have three choices, we do nothing and they return to our streets.  We pay to keep them incarcerated in the US or we pay to keep then incarcerated in Mexico.  These are your only three choices, you decide.

SANTA CAME EARLY

I really needed a new pair of dress shoes or boots.  These are Thursday Boot Company Wingtip.  The VA is working on helping with the weight loss.  It is a brain issue.  More testing has been ordered, and a final decision to send me to the Houston VA which will fix the problem is probably less then 30 days away.

In March I will be NY for my B-DAY.  If I lose the weight, I will go to Barney's and Brooks Brothers for two new suits.  It is time to get geared up for a new adventure.  As to my day to day clothes, I intentionally dress dumpy because it makes me feel comfortable, but in business I have always invested in the best.  Yes, Barneys and Brooks Brothers will be expensive, but presentation is everything.  If you are not willing to sacrifice and invest in your business, then maybe you should not be in business.

To Santa - thanks for the shoes/boots.

BROWNSVILLE AIRPORT - AN ECONOMIC ENGINE ON THE MOVE

Mr Bryan Walker, Director of Aviation at the airport gave me an hour of his time to educate me so I can educate my readers about the economic movement at the airport.  We got along in part because in my questions I always made sure I would understand if confidentiality agreements or government regulations limited what he could say.  He was very forthcoming when the rules allowed for same.

THE AMAZING NEWS FIRST

Brownsville has officially returned to an international airport which is more than charter flights to Mexico.  American and United when issues in Houston or Dallas necessitate are redirecting international fights into Brownsville to clear customs here, and then continue on to Houston and Dallas where the passengers are clear to leave without any addition custom checks.  This reality proves we can handle these planes and customs for a large number of passengers.  It promotes Brownsville and its airport.

Several private services are landing 737 and similarly large planes in Brownsville on a regular basis. Once again this proves Brownsville can handle these planes.

Sorry the above rendition of the prospective new airport is not better. My editor seems to have disappeared from my computer so I could not crop the picture and make it straighter.

First I am told we are probably at about a 60% certainty this is what the airport will look like. In preparing for this story someone bad mouthed the new airport as still being smaller than Harlingen. If you have been to their airport in Harlingen, you know it is a poorly designed overdone airport with an incredible amount of wasted space which is costing the airport money.   The AC bill for endless square feet no one is using costs money.  Bigger is not better.  The right size with availability for  growth as needed is how a smart person does it.

The new airport is perfect for our needs.  As demand grows so to will the new airport.

NEW AIRLINES

While Brownsville will turn down no airline, within reason, it would prefer a seasonal airline at this time, until the new facility can better accommodate a full time airline.  It does not help our image to bring in a full time airline which will be difficult to accommodate at this time.  While Mr. Walker would not disclose confidential discussions, my impression is there are small airlines he wants to bring to the airport, but there is really nothing on the table for a deal in the near future,.  I am fine with this.  United and American are flying at near capacity.  We do not want to be known as the city which brings in new airlines before we are ready, and then they fail.  We are about 2 years away from the new terminal which will be able to handle several new airlines.  As the terminal gets near to completion we will have something to show the other airlines.  Now to be fair, natural paper work and regulation issues could delay the completion of the airport but it is underway and there is no going back, so just be patient.

THE RUNWAY

Here the information gets sketchy, but not because anyone is trying to hide anything but because the runway expansion is tied to the demands of vendors working with Space X and SATA, the Italian manufacturing company investing in Brownsville.

It is no great secret the airport was neglected for years.  In fact the master plan the airport must follow has expired so a new one is being developed, or may actually already be developed.  I failed to do the follow-up question on that one..  We had an airport board in a perpetual malaise.  It is all changed.  I am being told the airport board is starved for information and evidence of progress.  This is good.

There are two runways on the table.  The 10,000 linear foot runway, and the 12,000 linear foot runway.  Such as the new terminal we are about 2 years away on the 10,000 linear foot runway, maybe longer.  The land, easements etc for the 10,000 linear foot runway are in place.  But there is a lot of paperwork which still needs to get done such as cost benefit analysis, environmental impact etc.  Mr. Walker is convinced while some tweaking may be needed along the way, always to be expected, everything looks good.  He anticipates no problems from the FAA.  This runway will handle anything anyone tries and throws at us.  If everything takes three years, and meets Space X and SATA demand I will be fine.

Part of the delay is natural.  I will put this in simple terms.  Before the new runway can be worked on, construction wise, but not engineering wise, another runway has to be upgraded to be able to handle Brownsville's needs.  Only then can the other runway be closed to complete the new one.  But during the process the engineering and all studies and paperwork will be moving forward, so they will be ready.  You know what, if it takes more than two years, I am fine.  What I care about is the evidence. It is real this time.  Also Space X suppliers and SATA, have time tables which need to be met for their needs. So they will help push this along.  Brownsville is not alone.  The state and federal government know there are timetables we must meet, and they will work with us.

BROWNSVILLE IS MOVING FORWARD AT A GOOD AND STEADY PACE

What is happening is, outsiders see we are a gem in the raw, and are taking advantage of what we have to offer.  It frustrates me that if we were a New England coastal city with the same amenities we have now, we would be called quaint with a lot to offer.  But ignorant racists, trying to make money are defining us in a negative light.  The BV has always denounced these trolls, and will continue to denounce these trolls.

Brownsville is moving forward at a good and steady space.  I do not want to be McAllen, although I really want a book store.  McAllen has a lot to offer, but it is furnace in the summer and does not have the charm of a coastal city.  To each his own. Be happy where ever you choose to live.

I watch every day new construction in Brownsville and change.  Our developers are building housing for all income levels, which is good.  At Four Corners the northeast corner use to be a dump.  It now has a liquor store well kept, and the old dilapidated Chines restaurant is nearly remodeled with new tenants ready to move in.  In fact 12 years ago, Four Corners was basically abandoned and is now all new businesses.

Shopping centers all over town are redoing the facades of the buildings making them look like new construction.

The only people bad mouthing Brownsville as not moving forward are people who do not live in Brownsville or lack the gas money to drive from McAllen to see the truth.

I am not saying we cannot do better and do not need change.  We nearly did a complete sweep of BISD,  We need to do it with the city commission in May.  We need new vision.  Our city and county leaders have not brought this great change, outside corporations and the governor have brought our progress forward.  We now need local leadership which can do a better job at marketing Brownsville and understand Brownsville and Cameron county need to be one.  The extraterritorial jurisdiction war Brownsville is fighting in court and against our neighboring cities must end.

We need a city commission which can find a use for downtown.. Ben Neece and I have had our differences.  But I am never about yesterday, I am about the here and now.  If he runs against John Villarreal and he shows a vision for downtown and believes Brownsville and Cameron county must be one, I will be his biggest supporter.  Ben walked the walk and invested a lot of time and money in downtown, so we know he is not mere words.

But we need a change in how we see downtown.  Go to Dallas - they will tell you downtown was dying.  The city gave tax abatement and incentives to turn old warehouses and stores into lofts and apartments, and people bought them.  This then lead to new businesses to support the new residents of downtown.  UTRGV employees and students need housing.  This is where you begin.  Meet with them along with TSC students and staff and find out what they want, and then meet with developers to develop old buildings and warehouses into lofts and apartments.  People can walk to work.  It will bring in new business.

It's about vision.

THE BV, ALWAYS LOOKING TO PROMOTE BROWNSVILLE, WHILE TELLING THE TRUTH ABOUT ITS PROBLEMS

To Mr. Walker at the airport, thank you for your time, and thank you for coming to Brownsville to make our airport all it can be.  I finally have confidence in our airport's future. To my readers, Mr. Walker was a great hire, and is a very smart diplomat.  He will navigate Brownsville with ease and make our airport into an amazing economic engine, so long as he gets the support he needs, which he seems to feel he is getting.  On that note I have to say it seems the city is doing its job.  Good for the city.

GOVERNOR ABBOTT WRITES LETTER TO CRIME VICTIM URGING HIM TO TAKE HIS CASE DIRECTLY TO DPS AND THE POLICE CHIEF IF SAENZ CONTINUES TO REFUSE TO PROSECUTE

Months ago the Brownsville Police Department noticed DPS that Gabriela Salazar would be charged with intoxication assault.  For months the blood work has been in Saenz and Chief Rodriguez's hands and the drunk driver has yet to be charged.

Governor Abbott wrote the victim a very compassionate letter telling him to take it directly to DPS and the police chief.

Governor Abbott did not have to take the time to write this letter over one victim, but he did.

The BV is about the good the bad and the ugly.  Again such as with the new Work Force Training Center Governor Abbott is showing he seems  to care about the LRGV and it problems.  It is never no mind to me he carries the Republican label.  Sometimes we will agree and others we will not.

The Democrats better start to pay attention because if Governor Abbott keeps a good focus on the LRGV it could flip Republican.

This is a time where an honest person says, hats off to Governor Abbott for encouraging this victim to go to DPS for force justice.

FACTS PROVE MIKE HERNANDEZ FAILED SCAM AT FIGHTING ZIKA VIRUS

This morning Mike had his homophobic, anti-Semite mouth piece float to McHale and Montoya that he is prepared to fund them so long as they keep him off the blogs unless it is positive press.  All three are free to continue trashing Brownsville and every elected official, but so long as he is paying  he is off limits.

Well it took Montoya looking for another sap to pay him money no time to post a bullshit post praising Mike for his failed policy to fight the Zika virus.

From the drunk:

"Remember the wave of criticism aimed at OP 10.33's Mike Hernandez for having his boys pass out cases of mosquito repellent in downtown Brownsville neighborhoods where the bloodsuckers could breed and spread the Zika virus?"

What the drunk fails to tell you in his story the Zika virus has shown up exactly where Hernandez passed out the cans of mosquito spray.  But then pointing out the obvious of the failed policy will not get money for Juanito.

What the BV supported and Mike remained silent on was an aggressive spraying policy by the city and county.  Fact is Mike's little stunt did nothing to protect the people and now someone has the virus because the aggressive spraying was not done when it should have been  done.

Mike knows I cannot be bought and to run cover for his attempt to buy me he point blank lied and claimed my brother had cancer and I needed money for his treatment, when even a drunk, a pornographer, and homophobic anti-Semite, Mike's new spoke persons. all know my brother by his age has 100% medical coverage which is known as medicare, but in my brother's case as a retired military person he has the golden parachute healthcare known as TRICARE.  Why  did Mike lie, because he had to, but then as the moron he is he has published his offer to pay a pornographer, known criminal, and homophobe anti-Semite to only publish how wonderful he is, while allowing them to trash Brownsville and every elected official in Brownsville and Cameron County.  This is all the  while he denies he offers to pay people to say what he wants said.

HEY CARLOS MARIN

You notice he has no problem with McHale trashing you every day?  Why would any sane politico in this town work with the man when he just threw all of them under the bus, to buy protection for himself.

The BV because it cannot and will not be bought or intimidated will continue to publish the good, the bad, and the ugly.  The people in Brownsville and Cameron county are not stupid.  They now know the scoop and nothing positive published about Mike Hernandez will be considered anything but a bought and paid for ad from a pornographer, criminal, and homophobic anti-Semite.

IT IS TIME TO THINK ABOUT CHARITY

Alternativetgifts.org is a great organization I have been dealing with for years.  Other then helping people for free as a kind of social worker all year long, in December I choose a need listed here, and give to the UTEP scholarship fund.  This year I have chosen reforestation in Haiti.  It is a long term process, but in time will bring Haiti out of poverty.  You do not have to choose this charity,  find any charity.  You would be amazed what $50.00 can do for a community.  Click for my choice this year

I use to choose projects in Nicaragua but several years ago Nicaragua was taken off of the list. I suspect it was politics, knowing everything I know about what is actually happening on the ground in Nicaragua.

FIDEL CASTRO  -THE FACTS AND NOT THE REPUBLICAN TALKING POINTS

In 2011, National Geographic estimated the number of dead Iraqi's caused by George W. Bush's lies about weapons of mass destruction at a half million.  On this real human rights abuse, the Republicans are dead silent.

China and Russian manufacture the weapons, ISIS and other groups buy with Middle Eastern money to kill our soldiers and countless innocents in Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, and a host of other countries, and the Republicans are silent.  But of course China and a host of Middle Eastern countries fund the debt we incur to keep these wars going.

Cuba is a small island which presents a threat to no one.  Presidential politics and the Florida Electoral votes are the only reason the embargo/trade ban have been kept in place.  Both Political Parties want to keep the Batistas who seek to reenslave the Cuban people happy.  It is about votes, and not Cuba presenting a threat to anyone.

Fidel thumb his nose at the U.S. when we demanded restoration of the lands and businesses taken from the Batistas.  Had the U.S. not cared more about the Batistas than the Cuban people, Fidel Castro would have turned to the US for aid instead of the former Soviet Union.

We ignore endless human right abuses in Saudi Arabia because we need their money.  We turn a blind eye to women being stoned to death under Sharia law, and the Republicans are dead silent.  But then of course the Republicans need Saudi and Chinese money to funds their wars and special projects.

GAY RIGHTS IN CUBA

The Republicans talking heads keep on denouncing Cuba for its gay rights history.  Well here are the facts.  The same year the U.S. passed into law Don't Ask Don't Tell, Cuba open its military ranks to gay personnel.  Years before gay sex was decriminalized in the U.S. it was decriminalized in Cuba.  The Cuban healthcare system will in many cases pay for gender reassignment surgery.  So everything on gay rights in Cuba being published by the Republicans is lies."

Freedom of association[edit]

According to the International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Intersex Association and other sources, Cuba's only gay and lesbian civil rights organization, the Cuban Association of Gays and Lesbians, was formed in 1994 by eighteen people but was effectively shut down and its members arrested in 1997.[12][13]
Since 2008, the National Center of Sex Education has sponsored some LGBT festivals and pride events.
In 2013, a week of drag shows, colourful marches, and social and cultural events in Havana culminated with celebrations of the International Day Against Homophobia.[14]
In 2015, the project "Nosotros también amamos" which demands the legalisation of same sex couples, was funded by the human rights organisations "Corriente Martiana", "Fundación Cubana por los Derechos de la comunidad de Lesbianas, Gay, Bisexuales, Trans e Intersex (LGBTI)" and the gay project "SHUI TUIX"

THE BATISTAS ARE GUILTY OR HUMAN RIGHTS ABUSES AND SHOULD BE TRIED FOR SAME

No group has so held hostage the presidential election process as the Batistas.  Where would Cuba be today without the embargo?  It would be a major tourist attraction bringing in billions of foreign currency for its people.

Under Castro and with the help of President Obama, tourism is flourishing.  Under Cuban law private citizens can run small family restaurants out of their homes.  They can also rent out rooms.  Cuba has a hotel shortage.  These private family businesses are being paid in hard currency.  They are better off because of these new policies, which Trump has already announced to appease the Batistas he will rescind.

Every major airline is poised to have to two flights a day into Cuba.  They will be at Trumps door before he will be allowed to stop the progress.  Hotel construction is everywhere.  The travel ban is effectively non-existent.  As a blogger all I have to do is sign an affidavit with United that I am going to report on the impact of American tourism on the average Cuban and I am in.  In fact the only reason I am not going is because I am researching if I can go through Mexico.  United flies only out of Newark NJ, which puts the cost at over $600,00.  Southwest flies out of two Florida locations.  Depending an advance purchase I think I can do it for under $500.  Money aside it makes no sense for me to fly all the way to NJ, when I can fly out of Florida.  I am also researching how I rent a room in a private home.  It will give me better access to the people.

I do not deny there were human rights abuses under Fidel Castro, but I also do not turn a blind eye to the abuses by the US which has political prisoners and executes innocent people.  I also do not deny the abuses by our allies who lend us money.

History taught us that through trade and tourism the revolution of rising expectations brought down the old Soviet Union, and changed China.  The same will happen in Cuba.  Cuba will change with U.S. American travel.  The Cuban government will become addicted to hard U.S currency and change.  But they will never allow the Batistas to dictate policy for Cuba.

On the latter the Republicans by celebrating the passing of Fidel Cuba may have set back relations for years, thereby allowing the Batistas to continue to dictate US Cuban relations at the expense of the  Cuban people.  We shall see who wins, corporate American which favors expanding trade or the dying Batistas in Florida.  I suspect no matter what Trump says today, in the end he will go with corporate American and the money.

TRUMP CALLS RECOUNT A STUNT WHILE CLAIMING MILLIONS OF UNDOCUMENTED WORKERS VOTED FOR HILLARY - THIS MAN IS BEYOND STUPID

"President-elect Donald Trump alleged Sunday, without evidence, that "millions of people" voted illegally for Hillary Clinton and otherwise he would have won the popular vote."

Click CNN.

Here is the problem, given how long and how much Republicans have been claiming voter fraud even as later as Sunday evening, why are they so opposed to these recounts which may expose illegal aliens, and dead people voting.  They will then have their proof.

Donald cannot help himself while with one end of his tongue he yells voter fraud, and then with his other side calls a recount which can expose the fraud a scam.

Do I think the recount will change anything?  Nope, but if we learn of any voter fraud, regardless of who benefited from the fraud how is that bad?

FIDEL CASTRO THE FACE OF ANTI-TIOSAMISMO PASSES NEVER HAVING CONCEDED TO THE DEMANDS OF GOLIATH, NAMELY THE US

CLARIFICATION

Teaching is so much easier than blogging because you can see confusion in the students' eyes and know you need to go back over the material.

The headline should tell you I see Fidel Castro as a very important figure in Latin American politics, who stood up against the US and made Cuba a better place,.  Without the petty US embargo I am willing to be it would have one of the top three economies in Latin America.  I made clear freedom of speech is a myth.  I have also seen and always will see Fidel Castro as the voice of the people of Latin America.  Those who yell human rights abuses, have their heads in the sand as to what is happening in the US.  When you are willing to fix the problems in the US you can then worry about other countries.

The news reports out of Miami and Cuba show a split between the generations.  I used this reality to compare and contrast Castro to Somoza I of Nicaragua.  Yes, they were both dictators, who actually disliked one another, but both advanced their countries.  Fidel did it without US support because he was never going to give the land or factories back to the Batistas who kept the Cuban's in poverty, and good for him, and shame on the Cubans in Miami who have used their greed to keep Cuba poor. Somoza did not face the same problem as Fidel Castro so it was easy to align with the US and build the economy.  But all dictatorships must come to an end.

I could not imagine China being ruled with a US type democracy.  But yet the people are thriving with education, and opportunity, and for me this is more important than being able to say the government sucks.  The government is not listening anyway, so there is no value in our speech.

ORIGINAL POST

Americans, especially academics and politicians are so ignorant of the symbol Castro presented for Latin America they have zero knowledge of or understanding of the term Tiosamismo.  Translation Uncle Samism - or a continued policy of the Big Stick Policy.

In large measure the the immigration problems with Latin America are tied to governmental policies in Latin America in response to Tio Samismo.  Eventually some countries realize they need our military and we are in to help fight the drug cartels or revolutionaries.

I can tell you for sure that the Mexican government has invited U.S. Special Forces into Mexico to fight the drug cartels and ISIS which is now working with the drug cartels.  It is really no great secret, but it goes against the official policy on U.S. intervention or help in Mexico.

All U.S. help is viewed as an attempt to control these countries.  Just yell Tiosamismo in many of these countries and the people will rally around any dictator no matter how bad they are.  Just look at Maduro in Venezuela.

Reports out of Cuba are exactly what any good analyst would expect.  Those who saw the transformation under Fidel Castro are saddened by his passing.  Those who have spent their entire lives under the new Cuba see the passing of Castro as no big deal.  they have no knowledge of the servitude the people lived under, under the Batistas.

I saw this first hand once in Nicaragua.  My grandmother who saw the great strides forward under the senior Somaza, albeit a dictator, revered him.  My mother who benefited as a young adult and forward from the great strides forward just saw him as a dictator.

Once my grandmother had commissioned a portrait of Somoza.  We were staying with her with a group of family friends waiting with my grandmother for the portrait to arrive.  When it was brought in my grandmother stood.  If she stood everyone stood.  My mother refused. By this time she had lived in the U.S. for nearly 30 years.

My grandmother got her words in.  She lectured my mother that before Somoza most of Managua had no electricity, or running water.  Community healthcare workers did not exist.  They insured all children had their free shots and minimal healthcare for free.  My mother did not see it that way.  What she saw was Somoza being party to U.S. Marines shooting looters after the earthquake of 33' or 34', which is how he ended up solidifying his power.  She saw the poverty.  My grandmother reminded her how much worse it was before Somoza and the U.S. aide which came with Somoza.  My mother saw, the U.S. turning a blind eye to the problems because Somoza and then his son became solid allies against Cuba, and other communist insurgents.

It was generational, and this is exactly how the people or Cuba started to respond last night with the passing of Fidel Castro.   I have always found it odd that U.S. Americans prefer a freedom of speech no politician will even consider over food and healthcare.  Freedom is so much more complex than being allow to say the government sucks.

Cuba exports doctors for hard currency.  These doctors not only save lives in Cuba but all over the Third World.  I could be wrong but I prefer access to healthcare over being allowed to say the government sucks knowing full well the government is not listening or even cares.

Nicaragua under Somoza had the fastest growing economy in Latin America when he was forced from power.  More than 30 years after the revolution Nicaragua remains the second poorest country in Latin America.  Farmers are disappearing for the Chinese financed canal which will never be built.  They just elected Daniel Ortega and his wife president and vice-president of the country.  Daniel Ortega has de facto run Nicaragua longer than Somoza II.

Because of internal corruption many charities and christian organizations have left the country.  But Ortega yells Tiosam, and the people blame the US for the decision of Nicaragua to turn from hydro power which the U.S. was building to fossil fuel electrical plants designed by the Soviets, thereby making Nicaragua dependent on foreign oil to run their electrical plants.  They are now going back to the hydro plants the U.S. was building now that they can no longer rely on Venezuela or Russia to subsidize them.

It is my hope with the passing of Fidel Castro, the embargo will be lifted, although there is already significant trade with Cuba, while U.S. tourism is booming.  Key to U.S. foreign policy in Latin America is ending Tiosamismo.  My big fear is Trump is going to use an even bigger stick than we have been using in the past.  Threatening to make Mexico pay for a wall only reinforces the distrust Latin America has for the U.S. God save us if Mexico retaliates and throws out our Special Forces currently fight ISIS and the drug cartels in Mexico.

Honduras is a mess with mass criminal activity on every street.  Working class Hondurans with good jobs and bright futures are abandoning everything in hopes of being able to enter the U.S.  We can win the drug war, but for some reason choose to not fight back.  In part it is because these countries do not trust us, given our past.

We know where the kingpins live in all of these countries.  Yes taking out their compounds will mean collateral damage to a lot of innocent people.  But even more people are dying every day because we do nothing to take out these compounds.  If we force them to live in caves they will no longer be the heroes they are seen as today.  When you are hungry or given a choice of joining the drug cartels or die or have your family killed, you run for the Rio Grande, or join the drug cartels.

My hope is with the passing of Fidel Castro will bring in a new era of cooperation between Latin America and the U.S.  An era of mutual respect and understanding that we only survive through cooperation.  This is how you solve the undocumented worker problem.

THE CHALLENGE IS ON

UPDATE:

Wisconsin county admits to voter fraud to benefit Trump  Their original numbers had more people voting for Trump than voted in the entire county.  This battle is on.  Trump now down 1500 votes.  The recount will go forward and a flip of Wisconsin will cause major havoc for Electoral College.  We continue to wait on the review of more counties, and whether or not the money can be raised for the recount in Florida and Pennsylvania.  This admission by one county, may be what it takes to raise the money for all three recounts.

Occupy Democrats is now claiming it is three counties, but I cannot find any independent verification of same and since I do not trust Occupy Democrats I am reporting on only the one county, for now.

ORIGINAL POST

You may not know but Jill Stein has already raised enough money for one recount in a state the polling and exit polling says Hillary won, but went to Trump.  They are working on raising the money for Michigan and Pennsylvania.

Our Intelligence community has found some evidence of tampering by the Russians.  Jill Stein is making no such accusation.  She wants everything reviewed and let the evidence fall where it falls.

I was shocked today when I saw the Washington Post had the following editorial and calling for the Electoral College based on findings in the Constitutional Minutes, to elect Hillary Clinton.

Click for full OPED

"Conventional wisdom tells us that the electoral college requires that the person who lost the popular vote this year must nonetheless become our president. That view is an insult to our framers. It is compelled by nothing in our Constitution. It should be rejected by anyone with any understanding of our democratic traditions  — most important, the electors themselves.

The framers believed, as Alexander Hamilton put it, that “the sense of the people should operate in the choice of the [president].” But no nation had ever tried that idea before. So the framers created a safety valve on the people’s choice. Like a judge reviewing a jury verdict, where the people voted, the electoral college was intended to confirm — or not — the people’s choice. Electors were to apply, in Hamilton’s words, “a judicious combination of all the reasons and inducements which were proper to govern their choice” — and then decide"
This election could be far from over.  But my hopes are low for a change to Hillary from Trump.

SORRY FOR LATE POST, BUT HAD TO TAKE DOWN A VERY BAD VA DOCTOR AND JUST GETTING IN

BASED ON PRECANCEROUS POLYPS, FOR WHICH THE GASTROENTEROLOGY SOCIETY HAS NO 100% CERTAIN PROTOCOL FOR FOLLOW-UP, I am scheduled by my private gastroenterologist for a three year follow-up in March.  The VA now requires that their internal gastroenterologist agrees to all procedures first.

The protocol on precancerous polyps such as mine are a combination of the number, size, location found and clinical experience.  I could have handled Dr. Alvarez saying VA protocol requires I wait until 2019.  While the procedure itself is no big deal, and painless, the prep is a nightmare and everyone hates it.  So I would have been happy with a no, with a note to scheduled it in 2019.

But that is not what happened.  Dr. Alvarez accused my colo-rectal surgeon out right of billing fraud and only wanting to schedule the appointment to make money.  I did not take the bait.  I held my voice.  I explained to him, which he dismissed as unimportant that this surgeon refused to do my second gallbladder surgery because he felt there was a more qualified surgeon at Dr. Renaissance.  I tried to explain to him, but he made it clear he had no interest in knowing, that the surgeon referred me to a specialists in ERCP's because he wanted me to have the best.  This is twice he refused surgical procedures deferring to more qualified doctors.  In my mind this means he does not just schedule procedures for money.

Dr. Alvarez playing God made it clear facts and my medical history had no place in his decision making.  He refused to allow me to explain what is going on with the bile problem, which has been confirmed by another gastroenterologist.  He did ask me how I was doing on a medicine to treat the bile gerd, which is not acid reflux.  I tried to tell him it was not working anymore, but he never let me finish my sentence explaining what is happening when he pointed to my coffee and blamed me for the medicine not working.  Bile gerd and coffee have no relationship.

At that point I lost it and called him a moron, because he suffers from God syndrome and never learned to listen to his patients or get their medical history before forming opinions, and that he should not be allowed to practice medicine.

Trust me he lectured me about him being an expert about everything under the sun including calling the most respected colo-rectal surgeon in the LRGV as not being competent because he was opening himself malpractice,   I sat there and took it until he blamed my coffee for my bile gerd.  He did not even know or care to learn I have bile gerd, not stomach acid reflux..  Also as to gerd generally the specialists and research have yet to prove coffee is even a problem whether bile or acid reflux gerd.

A competent doctor who does not suffer from God syndrome would have said, "okay, I'm sorry, lets start from the beginning and start fresh."  No he slammed his chair back and told the nurse to remove me from the clinic.  I said, "no I am going to the chief medical officer to have you removed from the VA system".  He slammed his door.

I had a very successful meeting with the Chief Medical officer.   I had my documents.  It went beyond the Dr. Alvarez, issue.  There were so many problems building up and people not doing their job. She herself expressed confusion as to why the VA was sending me to outside doctors not qualified to deal with my brain atrophy, for example.

Well it is being worked on.

Doctor's like Dr., Alvarez who suffers from God syndrome need to have their medical license pulled. The medical schools and VA need to drill into these doctors' heads they better learn about the patient first before blaming the patient for the problem, and they have no business of accusing well respected doctors of scheduling procedures just to make money.  I can assure you my specialist has no shortish of patients, and probably works 70 hour weeks.

The Chief Medical Officer is a real advocate for the veterans and my confidence in her is absolute.  Literally as I am typing a problem I have not been able to solve since September is fixed. I just got the call. It just takes people who care.  Now, will Dr. Alvarez be fired or disciplined? no.  But he will have a long meeting with the CMO, and he will write the correct proscription for my bile gerd, and approve the colonoscopy for March.  I think the message will be sent.  Will he change?, no, sooner than later he will tire of being told how to practice medicine and move back to private practice where his patients can just look for a better doctor.

A THANK YOU TO THE INDIGENOUS PEOPLE OF RHODE ISLAND AND THE REST OF NEW ENGLAND FOR SAVING THE INITIAL SETTLERS

This is breakfast at my brother's home.  Johnny cakes were a creation of the indigenous people of New England.  My grandfather 11 generations removed or his wife were taught how to make them and they have now been passed down for 13 generations. They are corn cakes, which are made even better with real maple syrup.  I cannot wait for Christmas because I know my brother will make them, a day or two and same for my sister.  They live a few houses away from each other, and the call to Johnny cakes decides where I eat breakfast.

Let us not forget without the indigenous people of New England the first settlers may have starved.

A CLASSIC WHICH USE TO PLAY EVERY THANKSGIVING

Growing up we always looked forward to watching "The March of the Wooden Soldiers" on Thanksgiving day. I am watching it as I clean my desk before going for an early dinner, well actually lunch at noon. The last pie is in the oven.

WHILE WE ARE AT HOME HAVING A GOOD TIME, THESE PEOPLE WILL BE KEEP US SAFE

ENJOY THANKSGIVING

Like so many others, I am busy with pies.  Corporatism forced the meal to noon, so that all guests can attend so I have to complete two of the three pies today.  Plus a million other things.

Enjoy your family and meal.  Watch the game and just let politics go for a few days.

HEMP, A PERSONAL JOURNEY WHICH IS NOW 26 YEARS OLD

UPDATE:

I just spent over an hour on the phone with one of the people leading the 2017, battle for the legalization of hemp in Texas,  They have strong bipartisian support, especially from farming communities.  Hidalgo county is on board.  Cameron County needs to pass a resolution on this issue in support.

They do need to know the top farmers in Cameron county to see if they can help as witnesses,  many universities have already signed on to do the research to identify the different seeds needed for each part of the state.

WHY SHOULD I CARE?

I did not know this, but there is plenty of research on it.  I chose this link because the language used is simple and to the point.

"One of the most concerning issues of hospitals is the risk of infection. Going to a place filled with germ-ridden bodies is the surest way to get sick. One company in Colorado has developed a fabric that actually kills bacteria, and could soon replace sheets and scrubs in hospitals across the world, making them cleaner and safer. It is made from plant-based textiles, primarily hemp."

If this research is accurate it could bring down medical malpractice and deaths in hospitals.  It also has applications to uniforms for our soldiers.  So if you are Rene Olievera and the Lucios, by getting behind this you are not only helping our farmers and creating possible jobs, you are helping insurance companies save on claims.

The new legislation is expected to be filed next month with plenty of cosponsors.  I can only hope our local representatives can get the insurance companies they help to see the benefit to them so they too can get behind this.

THE ORIGINAL POST

A judge once said of me, "the difference between Wightman and a bulldog is a bulldog will eventually let go."   Well that is not totally true, as science and research advances, I have changed my position on many issues.  When complete facts are presented to me which contradict what many believed to be established facts, I have changed my mind.

As a gastroenterologist said to me once, "the problem with gastrointestinal medicine is, the colon is really one big black hole and we really know nothing.:"   It was a great double entendre.  Life is the same.  Psychiatry is pure junk science which changes with the social construct of the day without any regard for science or real medicine.  They label and medicate.  They give you serotonin for depression, which does not work in 65% of the people while refusing to first do a blood test to see if you even have a deficiency.  Why do a blood test first when the profession only requires you randomly label and then medicate?

SORRY FOR THE DISTRACTION

Here is some basic information about a hemp, which is particularly valuable to the LRGV.

"A versatile plant which consumes half the water of cotton while producing 250 percent more fiber, grows in most soil, and is used in over 25,000 products, hemp is legal to cultivate in 21 states. However, only three states currently grow hemp, while the other 18 have research programs."

I have been talking about our water issues, and problems with Mexico for 26 years.  Hemp helps to reduce our farmers' water consumption significantly.  Which directly impacts our water sharing problem with Mexico.

In 2015, hemp nearly became legal to grow in Texas.  But two House Members were able to stop the vote.  Then we came close to legalizing hemp for research at the universities, and that failed because time ran out.

Kentucky saw the light on the decreasing use of farm land for tobacco.  The Republican legislature lead the battle to allow its farms to move from tobacco to hemp.  Kentucky helped its farmers by adjusting to the new reality concerning tobacco, and now grows hemp and manufacturers hemp products.

Soon we will have a trained workforce for manufacturing.  Our leaders need to push now to get this on the 2017, calender for the Texas Legislature.  If we can grow enough hemp we will need processing plants, and in fact factories to make hemp related products.

But after 26 years of trying to explain the obvious, I remain convinced Texas will be the last state to allow for the growing of hemp, and thereby losing any edge it could gain by growing it now, and dominating the manufacturing industry which would go along with the growing of hemp.

This is an amazing opportunity for the LRGV, but we have no state or local leaders to help the Republicans pushing for hemp to make it a reality.  This is yet another issuer where I am about the issue and not the party label.

GROWTH, A SIDE NOTE

When considering Brownsville's so called poverty level, what averages do not tell you is, we have a lot of people working full time who are on food stamps.  A court house security guard with a family of 4 is on food stamps.  While I favor growth, I also understand its consequences.  I believe no county employee should be on any kind of public assistance.  We must pay them a fair wage.  But to do this will mean the cost of living will go up.  So while all these county employees may no longer qualify for food stamps because of a wage increase, the increase in the cost of living will eat away at their wage and they will be no better off, and in some cases, while earning more be actually worse off.

Growth is a balancing act which must come at a pace which allows for the local economy to adjust.  Fixed income seniors will go hungry if our cost of living goes up too fast.  The motto has to be steady as she goes. Brownsville has many things in place to start the growth we need, but if we push too hard or too fast, the increase in the cost of living will actually reduce the disposable income of a lot of people.

But we must be ready with our own manufacturing options, such as hemp once this new work force is trained. Hemp is the obvious answer because it take hold in the LRGV.

THE MYTH BEHIND AVERAGES AND MEDIANS WHICH IS NEEDLESSLY TRASHING BROWNSVILLE

I have said many times the problem with BISD is not with the students who do not need extra help or different instructional methods, but with the students who cannot learn in the traditional manner. BISD is producing students with the skill sets needed to succeed at the best universities and to go on to become great engineers and other high paying professionals.  But when this con is being run about Brownsville being a third world city is promoted for one's own purposes or to con people into expensive ideas which produce nothing, Brownsville is injured.  Just look at the million dollar plus con which was Imagine and then United Brownsville.  The good news the things coming to Brownsville and Cameron county will be paid for by outsiders so the local thieves will not be able to ruin it.  We finally have the State, the federal government and Space X seeing Brownsville for the gem it is.

Averages and the con: Click for full articlee

"Averages hide variation. Averages are simple to calculate and are sometimes a lazy way of determining past performance. For example, over some period of time a performance level may have started at 50% and ended up at 70%. Simple math then determines the average to be 60%, so 60% is now used as a baseline to measure future performance against. If the next performance level measured is 65%, you might conclude that performance has improved, which it has over the baseline. But in fact it has degraded from true starting point of 70%. Your next decisions could lead you in the wrong direction."

No competent person in any profession uses averages for business decisions. You need to look at the core problem and then attack any problems by attacking the core problem, while promoting meaningful solutions which address the core problems.

Comparing the average income in Brownsville to other cities is just plain stupid, and reflects the ignorance of those who do same.  My home in NY where my family lives would easily cost $500,000 plus with  annual taxes over $12,000.  I paid $123,900, and after 5 years because of a home improvement boom in my neighborhood I can sell it for about $160,000. Now to be fair with all of my investments in the home, my profit might be $5,000 or less.

But my point is, an average or even median income comparison fails to take into consideration the cost of living and quality of life.  When you factor in cost of living and quality of life, very few major cities can compete with Brownsville.  Yes, there are things we need - a book store and better use of what we have already.

The BV has never attacked the idea of bike trails or walking trails.  I think it is great for the county that several cities have now agreed to link up the trails between the cities.  This goes to quality of life.  It also shows evidence that the cities can find common ground which puts the county first, which is essential to our growth.

But because I believe in the trails as essential to our quality of life and marketing of Brownsville does not mean I agree to the bike trail in front of the zoo.  There is a part which is so dangerous, because it is narrow. I cannot believe the city agreed to the trail.  But in the end the sidewalks helped with safety for the children and their parents walking to school.

The BV is the only blog which promotes Brownsville, not only in its stories, but also in its logo.  In fact for believing Brownsville should be doing business with Latin America and backing the idea, because the BV did not write about the indictment of the now convicted Bob Hedrick within 10 minutes of its release it was implied the BV supporter the viewing of child pornography.  The fact of the matter is the BV has attacked the FBI for not shutting down the sites. And instead promotes them to potential child molesters so as to be able to arrest them.  It is never acceptable under any rational to promote pictures of children being sexually abused.

Instead of attacking Space X ad nauseam - we lost the battle time to turn it to our advantage - the BV has been calling for a year now for our local leaders to seek federal and state funds to build the weir dam to hold back enough water  to serve Space X.  They need the water so why not use the opportunity to get the government to pay for the dam, and when possible expand its backing up of water to include downtown Brownsville.  It is called vision and planning.

No one disputes Bob Hedrick was the wrong person to be promoting the new Pan Am and the use of Brownsville's airport to import perishable from South America. But again this is where we use Space X to our advantage.

Space X has filed with the FAA the necessary paperwork for the expansion of the Brownsville airport runway to support their needs.  Brownsville has announced it intends to expand the runway to 12,000 feet which means it will be able to handle the largest cargo aircraft currently in use.

Now in the interest in full disclosure, in the past the BV has documented back to 2003, the approval for an expanded runway with bonds sold to support the project, and no expanded runway was ever completed or even started.  So who knows?

These are solutions and our future which averages cannot consider.  Those promoting Brownsville as a poor third world country are ignorant or doing it for nefarious reasons.

For years Space X and the workforce training center has been in the works.  It is going to happen whether local yokels like it our not.  When it does, Brownsville will explode with good paying manufacturing jobs, with the maquiladoras, and NAFTA being a big part of this.  Ford and the other major car manufacturers will put Trump in his place on NAFTA and NAFTA will remain.  This will work for Brownsville.

Trump and those who think like him on NAFTA life Carlos Marin, think in silos.  Getting rid of NAFTA will displace 10's of thousands of Mexican workers thereby making the illegal immigration problem worse.  We are a world economy - and there is no way of getting around it.

FINALLY, SPACE X MAY SOLVE THE LNG ISSUE

Look space rockets exploding on the launch pad or after take off is nothing new.  It is the cost of doing space exploration.  I grew up with this.  But this reality now has the government seriously looking at the danger of having a space launch pad near an LNG plant.  Many of us may have opposed Space X, but it may now save us from LNG.

BE PATIENT PEOPLE

I give it 5 years and Brownsville will be undergoing an incredible transformation because it has the best quality of life, weather, and people who given a chance will work work work.  it is coming we just have to be patient for the work force training center promised by Governor Abbott to be complete and than manufacturers will be looking to build in Brownsville.  Our airport with trade will explode to way past its days when it was truly a major international.
airport.

Just ignore the naysayers and con artists who say we are the poorest - we are not.  We are very rich in what is needed for the future.
