INDEPENDENTS RULE, SO WHY MUST WE VOTE DEMOCRAT OR REPUBLICAN?

From a 2016 Gallup Poll: "42% identify as independents, 29% as Democrats, 26% as Republicans Independent identification at least 40% for fifth consecutive year Democrats maintain edge over GOP in party identification and leaning"

Texas is not in play for the presidential election.  Donald Trump will receive all 38 electoral college votes.  I will not hide the fact I want a Democrat in the White House for one reason and one reason only, control of the Supreme Court.

Polling between Clinton and Trump is too early to be reliable.  As of June the latest poll puts Clinton only 7 points behind Trump.  It will be September before we see a realistic poll.

See Statesman

But if come the time of early voting Clinton polling shows she cannot win Texas then Texas Democrats should send a strong message to the DNC that they better present us with better choices or else.  There is a growing movement among unhappy Democrats to vote for Gary Johnson, former governor of New Mexico who is running under the Libertarian Party.

If Hillary cannot win in Texas why not send a message instead of wasting our vote on Hillary.  Gary Johnson is rapidly becoming the choice of Bernie Sanders supporters and Republicans unwilling to vote for Donald Trump.

But I know politics and at the 11th hour some will balk and vote Republican and Democrat.  I'm tired of the two party system.  Only because I have no use for and consider Victor Cortez dangerous to our civil liberties I will be voting for one Democrat - Sheriff Lucio.  Beyond that I will be voting a blank ballot in the handful of Cameron County races.

Remember the old adage, "Birds of a Feather Flock Together."  We can and must do better than one bird with opposing feathers.

You were hoping for a Trump presidency not long ago weren't you? You want Clinton now? It reminds me of Rush Limbaugh (I don't care enough to check the spelling on his name) saying to his national radio audience, upon Bill Clinton's election, that he hoped he would fail as president. If he failed it could not bode well for the country. It made me wonder at the small mindness of so many people and the trend, particularly but not exclusively, among conservatives to put self and party over country. Supporting Trump because someone or something on the other side upset you is what my mother would have called "cutting off your nose to spite your face". Perhaps that is why you are having breathing problems.

I defy you to cut and paste any comment by me endorsing Trump. It has never happened and you are a liar. I have written endless pieces against TRUMP. But that does not mean I am going to ignore the problems with Hillary - the BV is the good the bad and the ugly - no sacred cows. My theme of supporting 3rd parties goes back to when I began this party. I have always opposed the palanca vote and made clear I have voted for good judges even if they were Republican because being a good judge is more important than you party label.

I do not put my head in the sand and pretend reality does not exist because it may be bad news for the Democrats who on balance I prefer over the Republicans. I have been hard on Texas Democrats for years because they are many things, but Democrats are not one of them.

Do you consider independent thinking people to be a mental illness, because that is how your post comes across?

I think its time Independents start winning. Neither Trump nor Hilary are good. Why vote for either? Pick the one in the middle.

As long as the one in the middle was part of the same system then it will be the same.
Trump says he is not a politician. Business people ARE politicians and ARE part of the American system . The libertarian candidate just switched parties but was once part of the regular parties.
The common man is the loser.

But in the case of Hillary Clinton if you are a Democrat, and the current polling shows Texas is going to Trump you can send a message that you are unhappy with the Two party system.

All Democrats can vote for Johnson as a message of discontent without actually supporting him because he will not win such as Hillary. But you will be sending a message of change.

We have to change this. Some polls put us at 50% of the people dislike the choice of Hillary vs Trump. This is good for change. The people have to be the first to change.

Thanks for the comment
