I HAVE NO IDEA WHO IS RIGHT AND WHO IS WRONG, BUT WHY WAS THE HIRING OF COUNSEL TO DEFEND THE CITY OF BROWNSVILLE NOT ON TUESDAY'S AGENDA?

The city just as easily could have filed the removal of the Montoya lawsuit to federal court this morning after Tuesday's city commission meeting.  Who hired Navarro?  Would Sossi as the plaintiff in the original lawsuit be conflicted out in using city resources to  hire Navarro?  Now obviously with Montoya suing the city, the city had to hire counsel to defend the city.  My issue is, why is there nothing on Tuesday's Agenda the city was notified it had been sued and the commissioners given permission to vote on the issue before Mark Sossi acted to protect his own interests?

We can assume Mark Sossi is the victim of defamation per se, but that does not mean he gets to by pass the city commission to protect his own interests.

What sickens me is we do not have 4 city commissioners willing to look at this mess - so instead of using limited city resources for the people they will now be used to pay Navarro and by its very nature protect Mark Sossi.

I can only hope at least one city commissioner will come out demanding an investigation.  It does not matter they cannot reach 4 votes.  What I want is the names of those unwilling to call for an investigation as to the manner in which this has been handled. Some one needs to put it on the next agenda so we the people know where each city commissioner stands on the issue.

Montoya v. Sossi and City of Brownsville

Navarro is a leach and has blead and benefited from the Brownsville tax payers for far to long.He purposely misleads the commission so he can drag out cases, people would probably be surprised how much tax payers monies has been payed out to him in the past 7 yrs on cases that could have been settled by Cabler

Not one commissioner with an ounce of guts to stand up to this nonsense. How can the taxpayers be footing the bill for a Sossi defense?! Sossi allegedly fooling around with a city employee seems like a personal issue......all be it was allegedly done on city time. What are the commissioners thinking?

I am not disagreeing with you, but having dealt with clients I can tell you you can beg them to settle and they will not. Since I have not been in executive session during settlement discussions I have no way of knowing who is to blame for the endless fiascos involving Navarro.

But I do know this, it should have been on Tuesday's agenda and it was not

The commissioners will say nothing because they then Sossi will be expected to run cover for them. This is why I have always said the lawyers for these public entities need protection against the elected officials so they can do their job in an honest way. If Sossi just once refuses to do the dirty work of a majority he will be fired and he knows that.

We need to change the law to require that the public entities have to state just cause for firing counsel and submit that just cause to the AG for approval - then things will change
