COUNTY CLOSED FOR CESAR CHAVEZ DAY

I am old enough to remember the civil rights battles for the farm workers.  I think it is good the county celebrates this holiday. BUT WHERE IS THE LEADERSHIP?

I went to the Administration building  to follow up on a lead.  This is when I found out the county was closed.  My issue is why was no administrative directive put out to put signs on the door informing the people the county was closed for the holiday.  People were lining up to register their cars in hopes they would open at  9 - nope nothing to tell the people they were closed.

The same thing happened two years in a row to some of my family members. They place announcements in the newspaper for labor day, memorial day and veterans day but nothing for Cesar Chavez holiday.
I am not sure, but I think the PUB also "celebrates" and closes for the day. IF they put any announcement, it is usually just on the bins where you pay going drive through.
I wonder if ANY of the young generation of Mexican Americans that work at these places know who Cesar Chavez was? I doubt they know or care, just that they have the day off.

I think it was an insult to the honor of Cesar Chavez and all who suffered before his work.

A sign saying closed in Honor Cesar Chavez Day with a simple sentence saying who he was would have been first and foremost education, but also informing the people they are closed for a good reason.

But when I realized why they were closed I felt like it was a great insult to Chavez and those who suffered before he changed things. His work means nothing to the county administration and for that shame on them. Where would so many of them be without Cesar Chavez and Dr. King - both made this country so much better - and I mean for everyone.

I feel privileged to have been old enough to have seen their work first hand on the news and truly appreciation their sacrifices for a better US American which helped all of us equally.

My experience with the county staff at the Administration building on both the first and second floor, and in San Benito has always been the same - A+. Do not confuse the hard workers with the inept Commissioner Court. Pete Sepulveda should have handled this and he did not.
