TWO IMPORTANT HIV STORIES AND OUR CITY COMMISSION CONTINUES TO FAIL TO ACT

I cannot find it on line, but yesterday Valley Central did a great story on a woman who was the victim of domestic abuse and infected with HIV by her ex.  We also had the news of Charlie Sheen.

The Valley Central story is the one I care most about.  We are not teaching our teens about STD's and in particular HIV.  The woman in the Valley Central story is married to a man who is not HIV+, but they are educated so they know she will not infect him.

Texas AM did a study in Dallas among young gay men.  They were actually testing them at a corner set up for HIV.  They would wait a few minutes and get the results.  It was not the number of youths who were being told they have HIV which shocked the researchers it was how few even cared.  In today's world once diagnosed if you can afford the medicine or get access to one of the free programs you will live to a ripe old age, so the youth do not see it as the threat I see it as.

The Valley Central piece dealt with the lack of education in the LRGV concerning HIV.  I have made this a big issue with Commission Rose Gowen because as a doctor it should be Rose Gowen bringing this forward for a public workshop to educate parents and their children.

HIV is spreading among our youth.  There is no meaningful awareness as to the dangers of HIV - let alone all of the other STDs

What are human papillomaviruses?

Human papillomaviruses (HPVs) are a group of more than 200 related viruses. More than 40 HPV types can be easily spread through direct sexual contact, from the skin and mucous membranes of infected people to the skin and mucous membranes of their partners. They can be spread by vaginal, anal, and oral sex (1).

I am actually amazed on how many articles Forbes business magazine has done on HPV - click for one

I know of three straight men who have been diagnosed with HPV related cancer.  One has throat cancer and is being treated, and two have been treated for rectal cancer.  The latter is part of the problem.  We are not allowed to talk about the sexual spectrum or sex.  There are straight couples who love anal oral sex.  Both the men and women enjoy being on the receiving and giving end.  It spreads HPV - which is why I have said over and over again - all anal and vaginal oral sex should include a dental dam.  Oral sex on a man's penis must include a condom.  Condoms are not about birth control, they are about disease control.

SO WHERE IS THE GREAT COMMISSIONER ROSE GOWEN IN EDUCATING BROWNSVILLE ON THESE DANGERS WHICH ARE NOW SPREADING TO OUR TEENS? - DEMANDING MORE BIKE TRAILS.  I AM NOT AGAINST BIKE TRAILS - I AM AGAINST SILENCE

THE CHARLIE SHEEN STORY

Sheen is saying that he finally had to set the facts straight because of the public lies.  He denies having AIDS.  I know a lot of men who have had HIV for over 20 years who never developed AIDS.  If you take your medicine and stop engaging in dangerous behavior, the virus actually becomes undetectable.  Sheen claims that once he told his close friends some turned on him and demanded money to remain silent.  Sheen finally had enough and came forward to tell his story.

He cannot go backwards for his mistakes - but straight men contract HIV all of the time.  Sheen claims he does not know the source of his HIV.

The sexual spectrum is very complex and getting more complex every day.  There are sexual acts I find just out there - but that does not mean they are not natural - but because we must remain silent in discussing the issue people remain uneducated.  This closet world of the sexual spectrum is a primary force behind the spread of HIV, and other STD's

In the UK a couple came out because a video was released somehow.  They are married - have children - and love one another very much.  They were lucky to find one another.  She enjoys being on top so to speak and he enjoys being on bottom so to speak.  I'm being delicate.  They have both decided to explore their entire sexual spectrum and found happiness.   Until we all embrace ourselves for who we are, STD's will continue to spread, and our children will remain uneducated about the dangers of STDs, and the reality of the entire evolving sexual spectrum.

I favor putting in the boy's locker-room pictures of naked men with their genitalia rotting off from STD's - The boys will get the message. This is how I learned about STD's and those imagines are permanently embedded in my brain.
