A VOICE IS STRONGER THAN MONEY

Editor's Note:  this is from February 2012.  We can win the LNG issue, and force enforcement of the Domestic Abuse laws.  Our voice matters.  We just have to use it and use it loud.  I do not like Donald Trump, but he is right - no more niceties - time to hit the politicos head on.

UPDATE TO PROVE THE POINT

"First news: Point Isabel ISD vote unanimously to withdraw Annova LNG's application for the Chapter 313 tax breaks! These tax breaks would have cost at least $195 million over 10 years. Thank you for your letters and for showing up!!! If you sent an email, please send a follow-up thank you to board members. Congratulations to us all!"

It is  time our county commissioners see my post below on the gulf dead zone and follow Point Isabel ISD in voting no.  As a united voice we can win.  It is time Dan Sanchez, Alex Dominguez and Pete Sepulveda all rumored to announce for County Judge formally come out against LNG, or face an angry voter pool during the March primaries.  It is time Sofia Benavides come out against LNG.  SPI and a part of Port Isabel are in her precinct - she might want to remember how Hinojosa lost when he crossed SPI and Port Isabel.  If she refuses to come out against LNG it will be time to run an anti-LNG candidate to silence Sofia Benavides for good.

It is time to end this.  Commissioner Garza is another who must now come out against LNG.  His precinct includes most of Port Isabel and all of Laguna Vista.  Let's end this now so LNG knows they are not welcome and need to move on so that we can make the Cameron county as a metroplex the key issue instead of LNG.

FINALLY, AS A PORT COMMISSIONER IT TIME CARLOS MASSO'S FEET BE PUT TO THE FIRE - IS HE FOR OR AGAINST LNG? - NO SACRED COWS - WHAT SAY YOU CARLOS? - YOUR SILENCE SAYS YOU FAVOR LNG- WHICH MEANS YOU DO NOT WANT THE VOTES OF SPI, PORT ISABEL OR LAGUNA VISTA

ORIGINAL POST

On Tuesday Presidential candidate Rick Santorum with no money, but with a strong message for the evangelicals, won all three caucuses and primaries. Mitt Romney and his super PACs, with all of their money could not overcome the vox populi of the people who voted.

Last night was an important example of how the people can check the process of money in campaigns.  There has been so much made of the ads paid for by the PACs under the Citizens United Supreme Court decision that the people may be finally understanding the ads are to be ignored.

As I noted in my original post on the issue, the solution to Citizens United is not to restrict speech, but the people.  The people must be willing to ignore the ads.  The people must learn to educate themselves about the candidates.

It does not serve freedom if when the people are lazy we restrict the free speech of corporations and wealthy people.  It is theoretically possible Citizens United could force the people to become more attentive to the candidates who reflect their views.  This certainly has to be better than the people giving up on someone like Rick Santorum just because the talking heads claim he cannot win.

The talking heads and PAC money candidates can be ignored in favor of principle.  The power remains in the vox populi.  So long as we keep the power with the vox populi, We the People will effectively check our elected officials.

You really seem involved in the LNG thing. That is good. What group are you active with? I'd like to attend their next meeting. Can you post details?

I'm really very busy now but I believe there are two FB groups behind a lot of the organizing - I will do a special post later with links to both groups.

Me I am just a private citizen who cares about the issue
