ABRAHAM GALONSKY SHUTS DOWN TOWN SQUARE TO POLITICAL SPEECH

To be clear, Abraham Galonsky can do with his property as he pleases.  But in the US versus, Nazi Germany, we have a tradition of respecting the Town Square as a place for unfettered political speech.  Galonsky owns the land across from the Central Library.  He has banned all mayoral candidates but Tony Martinez from posting political signs.

Again, this is his right.  But it is also our right as citizens to judge him for his contempt for the right of the people to express themselves in the Town Square.  This land may not be public land, but during political seasons, it has become known as Brownsville's Town Square.

Shame on Galonsky for his contempt of Brownsville's tradition, and shame on Tony Martinez for being a willing participant in such repressive tactics.

Youdid say "IT IS PRIVATE PROPERTY" and that is enough said.

yes, and I opened with that - but you seem to have no respect for the fact the people can judge him for shutting down the unofficial Town Square for political speech.

We have the right to express ourselves and his ownership of the property does not deny us the right to express our outrage over his conduct

What an asshat!!!! Does he own the street in front of the land? Can I park my car there and walk up and down the street campaigning for the mayoral candidate of my choice ( not the incumbent) and not be harassed by the law?

I have no idea, but Galonsky by his conduct is saying he is not confident Martinez can win so he is trying to limit speech.

It says a lot about his lack of character that he would deny the people their historical Town Square during the election - again his land his right - but again we the people are allowed to have our opinion about his conduct.

That "historical Town Square" argument is horseshit. Do better.

Really, during the voting period it is not ground zero for every candidate campaigning - you really think such a bold face lie is going to fly with my readers. You did not help Galonsky - you only proved he is desperate

Bobby, I suggest you open up your yard to everybodies political signs, and then you wan also clean up after those that did not make teh cut FORGET to pick up their signs in a reasonable time period.

Your comment is stupid - he clearly does not care about this. If this were the issue as a land owner I would support him 100$% if he were to post a sign saying all political campaign signs are barred from this property.

This would be reasonable - but being selective and banning Tony's opponents tells everyone it is not about the trash I agree the candidates leave behind
