It took me a while to choose a picture - there are so many great characters.

Before I get into why I decided to do this post I want you to read President Obama's words on the passing of Robin Williams.

The White House has issued this statement from President Obama:

Robin Williams was an airman, a doctor, a genie a nanny, a president, a professor, a bangarang Peter Pan, and everything in between. But he was one of a kind. He arrived in our lives as an alien – but he ended up touching every element of the human spirit. He made us laugh. He made us cry. He gave his immeasurable talent freely and generously to those who needed it most – from our troops stationed abroad to the marginalized on our own streets. The Obama family offers our condolences to Robin’s family, his friends, and everyone who found their voice and their verse thanks to Robin Williams.”

So much of the scum in this town uses mental illness as a weapon, which only makes it harder for people like Robin Williams who reach the point they are done.  We all know who that scum is -

65% of all patients treated for mental health problems fail to respond  to medications.  Why?  It is not a medication solvable.  While we can measure serotonin in your blood, doctors just prescribe serotonin without first checking to see if you even have a deficiency.

Psychiatric medicine is junk science.  The DSM [god knows what revision we are up too] is voodoo medicine written by witch doctors.   Remember these are the same people who labeled being gay a curable mental illness.  Psychiatrists are trained to create social norms and then label anyone who does not fit into their social norms as abnormal.

Now I will say I have met a psychologist who trained in San Francisco and learned that sexual identity and urges are so complex the spectrum is endless in a million directions.  He is not one to label.   But others do and it never works - the goal should be to guide the patient and not label them.

Neuropsychiatry is developing quite rapidly.  Diet, neurological problems, endocrinological problems etc can all contribute to mental health problems.  None of these  are treatable through psycho-analysis other than to help you embrace the problem as your norm.  Nearly every older woman knows how they were labeled as having mental health problems for what we now know is changes in hormones during pregnancy, menstruation etc.

Until we have doctors who are trained to think medication last and full neurological and endocrinological evaluation first patients will continue to suffer.

Mental health needs to come out of the closet as a real disease.  People who mock it need to be condemned and shamed into silence.

While I do not doubt that psycho-analysis actually helps some people - it can also be a dangerous addiction.

Robin Williams never discussed any event in his life which explained his chronic depression.  This tells me it was biological.  With all of his money he was never able to find a doctor willing to help him explore biological causes for chronic depression.  He spent his life in and out of therapy only to learn time and time again, psycho-analysis does not work in every case.  Yes, if you suffered from trauma in your life psycho-analysis may help,  It may also help you learn to live with your chronic depression as your norm - like your right arm.

The fundamental problem with the current approach to mental health is this notion the doctors or medicine can make you better.  NEWSFLASH - 65% fail on medication.

A false promise even if by implication that the doctor can make you feel better is actually worse than no treatment.  Until neuropsychiatry and endro related variables are better developed, any competent doctor will encourage their patient to embrace themselves as they are.   A false hope only leads to people giving up and taking their own life.

I tell people all of the time I stopped smoking when I was 25.  31 years later I want a cigarette every day - god I really miss my pipe - but your know what I accept the urge will never go away and simply ignore it.

People fail at not smoking because they are waiting for the impossible to happen - the urge going away.  Oh, I guess in some people it goes away, but in most it does not.  Just accept the urge and ignore it.  Just accept your clinic depression if medication has failed and love yourself for everything right in your life.  Trying to be someone you are not will only make the depression worse.  Love yourself and ignore the label makers.

There is so much joy in the world - so what if you do not experience it 24/7 - enjoy it while you can and embrace the depression as normal when you cannot experience joy

Just some thoughts worth considering.

You say that there is so much joy in the world, that we need to enjoy it......why do you focus on the bad and exploit it for your personal satisfaction or gain?

calling people scum and thinking that you have to shame them into silence says volumes about yourself. That is what should be done to you.....

I am 100% certain that the only people who have a problem with the word scum as used here are the scum of the earth.

What is funny is - to get your point across you begin with a lie. The BV posts plenty of positive articles.

The BV's logo is designed to promote Brownsville -

The BV is always posting articles proving what is happening in Brownsville in terms of bad government and corruption is not unique to Brownsville, race, or political party.

No one else does this - all they post is Brownsville is the worse

Only the BV posts articles on the joy and fun of living in the Southmost area.

Just this past week I went out of my way to promote going back to Matamoros and the fun in riding the buses.

So it seems to me as scum you are offended by calling you out. When you begin with a lie, and then defend those I refer to as scum - other than scum like yourself - no one will find you credible - especially since you have so little conviction in your beliefs that you hide behind anony-

Real people could that cowardly scum

For a person that spreads so much joy about the area, you sure use negative comments if someone calls you out on your tendencies. Do yourself a favor and write less. Everyone is tired of your moody day you are happy as a clam about a bus ride and the other you are calling people scum....enough already.

You cannot be as ignorant as your posts indicate. Every day commentators and journalists go from positive to negative stories - it is the nature of the business.

So you prove my point - you want me to be a mold of you and since I am not you throw out a label.

It is clear your issue is with me on a personal level.

And not for nothing if you are so tired of my writing why do you keep on coming back to read it/

Answer - you need it - you are addicted to it

people like you never help yourself with your comments - all you do is expose yourself

Mental illness is a taboo in this Country. Sad, we are the best Country on the planet and we still belittle people with mental illness. In my opinion this makes us a nation of bullies. Plain and Simple!
