NEW UTRGV PRESIDENT GUY BAILEY "STUDENTS FIRST, ADMINISTRATORS SECOND"

UTRGV PRESIDENT GUY BAILEY

From the Herald:

“At this critical time in this process of establishing a brand new university and medical school, I believe it is much more important for me and my administrative team to be on our campuses throughout the Valley as much as possible and interact directly with students, faculty and staff,” UTRGV President Guy Bailey said in the press release. “We have many needs and priorities, including building labs and classrooms and launching a research center for diabetes and obesity. A central administrative building may one day be needed, but other needs must take precedence right now.”

I  can only hope President Bailey's attitude becomes like a benevolent virus which spreads across the LRGV.

You need to read the full Herald article.  I am certain our local politicos are confused responding with "who the hell does he think he is putting the people first."

We can hope President Bailey sets a new standard in excellence for  community service in the LRGV.

This guy is an anathema to education. Everyone knows that buildings come first and foremost in the Magic Valley. How else are you going to payoff your contractor friends? Students are merely a pitiable prop to be fleeced for their tuition and given a phony diploma that means nothing. Faculty are a pain in the ass except for the positions you can provide your friends and relatives. Of course only about 10% get to graduation, but so what. There is always a new crop to clip each year that never fails. He has no idea where he is.

I get your jaded by the history of the LRGV, but if you remain jade and never give anyone a chance, you will never see change

I was very pleased to see his attitude about buildings. They can be a hinderance to people getting and out going where they need to be seeing what is really happening. A school with beautiful buildings does not a university make. It is what is inside the buildings that count.

He must think he is at Oxford (that being the UK, not Mississippi).

For our kids/students I hope it happens.

Local school districts...please notice. Only an outsider can make a difference when it comes to the local politiqueros and compadrismo.

Well said, but in terns of BUSD and TSC any outsider as President tecero is learning will still by subject to trustees who want to micro manage BISD and TSC. In both cases the too many trustees see President Tecero and Super Montoya just as their puppets subject to dismissal if they do not do as told

Every so often you need an outsider. They don't last long but do make some good changes. BISD has had some not everyone liked them but they did bring in some new ideas and for a while some progress was made. For many years BISD administration didn't seem to realize that the size of the district had doubled. They thought it could be run the same way as in the days it was a small district. Wasn't working finally when they made a drastic change things began to change. Time for an outsider again.
