LARRY BROWN, BROWNSVILLE AIRPORT AVIATION DIRECTOR - "I LIE BECAUSE THAT IS WHAT I AM PAID TO DO"

I knew Larry Brown was lying when he told me a new airport on 511 would cost billions, but I did not have proof  until now.

Mind you at this time we have the federal government for the most part helping to finance a new terminal and possibly a 12,000 foot runway, now that Space X is a go.  So two big costs are already covered.

The City of Dallas just build a new mega-terminal at Love Field for a mere $519 million.  How come it only costs Dallas $519 million to build a new mega-terminal, but it will cost Brownsville billions to build a new airport, with the cost of the new terminal and runway already paid for?

Click for Love Field Plan

The new Love Field Terminal has 20 gates.  Click for Story Brownsville does not need 20 gates.

It seems to me political forces determined to hold Brownsville back will never back anything good for Brownsville.  We have tons of corporate welfare for outsiders, but never a nickel for Brownsville.

We have a chance for a money making Truck Stop which could compliment the Palo Alto Battlefield in its design, and we do not have enough votes to make it happen.  The idea that 511 is anything but an industrial corridor is absurd.  It those seeking to protect a bike trail  and Palo Alto have their way, 511 will never be developed and jobs will be lost.

Other than incompetence there is no reason why the city cannot move the airport to 511.  Larry Brown lied about the price tag for a reason - it was to keep happy the inept leadership which keeps him at the airport.  This is how Brownsville politics always work - you can be incompetent so long as you go along with keeping Brownsville from moving forward.

We are seeing signs of the Brownsville city commission breaking away from the failed nightmare which is Tony Martinez.  The city commission needs to call a workshop on the airport to get to the truth and force Larry Brown to go on record to explain why Dallas can build a 20 gate terminal for $519, but with our new terminal and possibly a 12,000 foot runway already paid for it will cost Brownsville billions  to build a new airport.

Someone needs to lead before the money on the new terminal and runway are wasted on the old location of the airport.

Love Field did not have to buy any land for the expansion. They used what they had An renovated much of the old building. It is nice but not as convenient as the previous set up.

In terms of costs, unless you are saying the costs of the land will be in the billions, Larry Brown lied. The key runway and terminal are already paid for.

Further, Brownsville needs nothing like 20 gates.

40 acres would be about 2.6 million - not even on the same planet as billions

The current airport is 1,700 acres - this means for about 111 million dollars the city buy the land - that is on the highside.

200 million may sound like a lot for the city to borrow, but the money is cheap now - and even at 200 million it is still far less than billions

BULLSHIT POST....YOU ARE THE ONLY ONE COMPLAINING ABOUT OUR AIRPORT.

Really, are you so stupid that you believe all of my readers over the years who have chimes in on the issue will just forget their complaints.

Barton has also done several stories on the airport.

Instead of lying, how about addressing the issue.

Nothing wrong with Bobby's post. . What is wrong in questioning the AVIATION DIRECTOR's numbers ? We live in a poor area, but money is spent like it's coming out of the kazoo. I am sure he would do much better homework if he or officials were personally funding it, but it is not his/their money. Yes, let's start addressing the issues. How can some of these officials, directors, sleep at night? Todoas se tapan con la misma cobija.

Someone needs to look into CDBG program from the city. The city has had pay over $2million for not following HUD guidelines.
