FUNDRAISER TO SEND BISD STUDENT TO NATIONAL CHESS TOURNAMENT

BISD's chess team makes Brownsville shine every place they go.  Its reputation as one of the best in the country has been profiled on HBO.  Daniel De La Fuente was one of the students on the HBO special.

These students are helping to market Brownsville and BISD is a positive light.  We must support them.  These trips are not free.  Without your help Daniel may not be able to make the trip.

When businesses look to places to relocate things like the BISD Chess Club makes BISD shine.  The more our students win at the nationals the better Brownsville looks to the country and in fact the world.

Here is your chance to do your part in promoting the positive image of Brownsville's children.

THE BISD CHESS CLUB IS TRULY ONE OF THE GEMS OF BROWNSVILLE - WHEN YOU HELP THEM YOU HELP BROWNSVILLE

BISD Funding Guidelines
National Tournaments – Teams must qualify at the Regional Tournament
in order to compete at the National Tournament. BISD funding for National
Tournaments will be used only for the top three BISD championship teams who
finish in the 1st – 4th place position at the Regional Tournament.* Co-
Champions (top teams with the same number of points) will receive national
funding.
* Any teams that place 1st at the State Tournament and did not qualify at the Regional
Tournament will receive BISD funding for the National Tournament.
Clarification: In the final team standings, teams are listed based on points and
tie-breakers. If a team places first, second, third or fourth on this list, or ties for
one of these positions, it will receive national funding.
NOTE: Teams listed in the top ten, as per the Regional Championship results, will
be allowed to compete at the National Tournament at their own expense.
Championship teams from the following categories will be funded by the
District:
K – 1 K – 3 K – 5 K – 8 K – 1

So are you saying students who do not qualify for district funding but qualify for the tournament should not go?

You do know we are dealing with a child here and you are making a fool of yourself with your post - but then of course you post as an anony

It is very simple. Let all the kids attend the National Tournament. Every single kid deserve to attend the National Chess Tournament. Competition is great for developing character; however, competition can take place at a national competition or at a local competition. Little League Baseball also develops character but not all players get to attend the Little League World Series. Those that get to compete at the Little League World Series is because they have earned the right to compete at that level by being victorious in competition. As per this young boy, I hope that the community will contribute to the fund raising activities and he gets to attend the National Chess Tournament. By the way, the National Chess Tournament can be attended by anyone as long as you register and pay the fees to participate. BISD has established there qualification guidelines as per funding of those students that will attend the National Chess Tournament.

It is extremely important we instill in our children that to compete in various sports and/or other extra curricular activities would develop a sense of belonging, thus keeping them out of trouble.
Perhaps if some of the board members would stop "settling" all of those lawsuits for their friends, as well as creating very well paid positions (for the same friends) we may have the monies to send all of these great students to compete/represent our district.

Hundreds of thousands of dollars is spent on BISD chess at taxpayers expense. It's fine for them to seek donations.

That was not the point - the point was BISD would have even more if the Board Members were not using it to pay off friends in lawsuits

"Hundreds of thousands of dollars IS spent"
Well ... much more " hundreds of thousands" would deplete the fund balance thanks to the two board members who are suing our district/children because of greed and stupidity.
