TUESDAY IS ALMOST HERE

The funny thing is, I think the biggest change in Brownsville is the Herald has a new publisher. With any luck things will change for the better. With a town so fraught with corruption a newspaper should be able to do real well in Brownsville - well if you have a publisher willing to publish the truth. It is true the money is made on ads, but how much you charge for those ads is based on how many readers you have. I wish the new publisher well and hope he sees the value in no sacred cows.

DO NOT VOTE ON TUESDAY UNTIL AFTER THE SONIA SOLIS SENTENCING

Federal Rule of Criminal Procedure 32(i)(4) provides that the court must "address the defendant personally in order to permit the defendant to speak or present any information to mitigate the sentence.  If you wait until after the Solis sentencing you may learn something which impacts how you vote.  The AUSA is going to want on the record who she helped, if she expects a lessor sentence.  You can then take this information and then not vote for anyone who has hired her in the past.  No sacred cows - This is one way you can fight the harvesting of mail ballots.

I had hoped that the DOJ and AG would have offered both Sonia Solis and Margarita Ozuna a deal to entrap candidates authorizing them to harvest mail ballots.  In exchange the DOJ and AG would clear their names with expungements.  The politiqueras are small time compared to the candidates who use them to corrupt the system - but I guess the candidates get to walk, while the person trying to feed their family takes the entire blame.

On the left side of this page is more campaign information on the candidates then anywhere else on the Internet.  Take the time to look at each candidate and form an opinion as to who is best.  If you are looking for someone who is 100% clean, you will fail.  Politics and clean do not go together - you are only fooling yourself.

If you are going to vote based on information you learned from a candidate who paid a liar to trash their opponent then you deserve bad government.  If you have to pay someone to trash you opponent what does that say about your character?  That by it self should be enough for you to not vote for that person.  In some races  I could not vote for either candidate.  I will never vote  for anyone who pays to have their opponent trashed, but that does not mean I am then going to vote for someone I know is dishonest or simply not qualified.

The only election I will predict is Joe Rivera will be the next County Judge.  Nearly all of the political machines are behind Rivera.  Does it make it right?  No -  I am just stating a fact.  the Oscar de la Fuente Political machine by itself is not enough to overcome all of the other machines.

Carlos Cascos hung himself with Cris Valadez - but you know what - Cascos in my opinion directed a lot of Valadez's conduct - so he is reaping what he sewed.

Good! Hopefully Rivera will fire Cascos crony Barrera and the county inspectors and start new. These guys have held back growth in the county long enough.

Joe Rivera may very well be the next County Judge. If so, it will only serve to bring back the good old days of county politics, all the way back to Ray Ramon & more recently Gilberto Hinojosa. If so, then the County deserves what it gets. Joe Rivera is unethical, manipulative and self serving. Someone who actively disguises what he intends to run for in order to make an accomodation for someone else is to me unethical.
