BUSTER HAS AN EAR HEMATOMA

This is not Buster but you can clearly see the swelling in the ear.   I gave her a bath today for tomorrow's annual check-up and shots.  This is when I noticed the swelling.   She did not have it this morning because in the morning we played in bed and I did not notice it.  She loves her morning play time.

Based on my research the only possible explanation is a bee sting.  She goes near the Meyers lemon tree a lot and there are maybe 100 bees at times of the day.  It is actually amazing to see that many bees.

Unless  the vet can schedule the surgery for tomorrow, she will not get her annual.  Since she was about 6 months old she needs to be sedated to be seen by the vet.  She is funny - she is the most lovable dog in the world, but boy does she hate the vet.  I do not lie - the second I pull into the parking lot she starts to have a melt down.  She is 55 pounds and to calm her I have to carry her in and hold her.  She will be 12 in August.

Anyway I will not pay twice to sedate her, so the surgery and annual will all have to be in one day.  We shall see.  After they drain the ear they quilt it to keep the area from filling up with  fluid again.  I am nearly 100% certain with the number of bees she has been around she got stung.  She is in no discomfort.  You can touch her ear and she is fine

That happened to my cat. The vessels were cauterized and the ear shriveled a bit.
They put that stupid collar on. I took it off.
Cat couldn't eat or drink. Hope Buster does well.

What happened with Buster?

She's fine $250 later - but that included her annual and 70 is for sedation which I pay for every year anyway. He drained the ear - she has no sign of infection. Her ears were clean. He thinks it was a bee stink. He injected steroids after draining it, and the swelling is almost gone

Thanks for asking
