THE VILLALOBOS PLEA BARGAIN

When Peter Zavaletta was running for DA, I asked him what his policy was going to be on REKS. He had no idea what a REK was. This is when I knew he had no chance of winning the race. He then made the statement that he would oppose plea bargains - this had every attorney and judge doing a "say what?"

Knowledge is everything - Villalobos is clueless about how the FBI works and their privileges in federal court.  The US prosecutor has made an offer of a plea bargain in the Villalobos case.  This is known as a REK.  I was discussing this the other day with an elected official and basically repeated what I have been told by several sources.  The DOJ wants Villalobos to take 10 years probation with no jail time.  The problem is with Rosenthal for sure going to jail on lessor charges the plea bargain will not sit well with anyone.  The further problem is, the DOJ needs to insure Villalobos does not take down James Dannenbaum with him.

The behind the scenes politics in this case are mind numbing.  It is truly a Mexican stand off - for now.  If they allow Villalobos to walk without jail time and Judge Hanen approves the deal, his career will be over.  It will make national headlines.  If he does not approve the deal his career will be over.  Basically, Judge Hanen will never see the court of appeals.  Armando holds all of the cards and is calling the shots - for now.

In my view he is crazy if he does not take the 10 years probation.  Yes, it will create a fire storm - but at least it does not include jail time.  There will come a point wherein his poker game will be called and he could find himself being charged with additional charges related to holding the DOJ hostage over James Dannenbaum.  If push comes to shove, FBI Director Mueller can make Dannenbaum a big old victim.

Be careful Armando  - the metaphorical bridge is in your future - you seem to forget, your attorney is working for Dannenbaum and not you.   He will drop you the second Dannebaum cuts a deal with the DOJ, which basically makes him a victim of you and Mexican nationals.  You seem to forget, the FBI can produce any evidence it chooses without regard for its authenticity.  With the exception of a handful of judges, no judge is questioning the FBI  - take the deal - pay the forfeiture and live with your choices.  Trust me, to look good with the FBI Judge Hanen will use his discretion to allow in any evidence which advances his career.

Do not take the deal and Dannenbaum will be your worst enemy.  They are tired of your games.

Oh my goodness! The FBI is as corrupt as their Mexico counterparts? How sad is that! Bobby, what a bunch of criminals we have as the FBI? Is FBI protecting one that benefits them? Why? When is justice actually going to prevail? In Heaven? Just asking....

very simple U can go to Cameron county jail and ask villalobos victims. He's going through the same thing he placed all victims. Whatever he gets will be nothing compared to the crimes he committed at the expense of innocent victims.

How in the world could they let this guy walk? He and Limas were the root problem. Selling justice and taking out personal vendettas at their leisure.

This nonsense happens every day in federal court - the FBI controls everyone - no federal judge moves up to the court of appeals without the consent of the FBI

Villalobos does not understand the system - he may now be past the point of a plea bargain - the DOJ seems to be at their limits
