VIGILANT READER BRINGS KEY STORY TO BV'S ATTENTION

BEDC DOING WHAT IT DOES BEST - WASTING OUR MONEY

"Last November, as Austin traffic inched toward a newly constructed race course for the Formula One auto race, a helicopter ferrying Gov. Rick Perry sliced through the air, delivering its passenger directly into the arena. Perry's comfortable, and expensive, transportation was paid for by a nonprofit group known as TexasOne, the same group that financed his trip to California last week.
By the end of that November weekend, TexasOne's tab at the racing extravaganza totaled some $159,000 for helicopters, vans, hotels and a $92,000 hospitality suite."

"AT&T had the second-highest total payments to TexasOne, at $203,162 over three years, followed by the Brownsville Economic Development Council, which spent $192,250.

A spokeswoman for the Brownsville organization said it is funded through an economic development corporation that levies a local sales tax. Likewise, the city of Conroe paid its membership through sales tax proceeds collected through its industrial development corporation, said City Manager Paul Virgadamo."

One big thank you to the reader for bringing this story to Brownsville attention.
