Vote Viro Cardenas

VIRO CARDENAS ANSWERS QUESTIONS

Why Viro Cardenas chose to run for mayor.

Why did I choose to run for Mayor.....our city problems did not start today...they have been ongoing and so has our complaining. I have sat for years and listened to the broken promises and how creating jobs, transparency, and revitalization, have been vocal points in everyone’s campaign and once elected they forget what their platform was all about. These are priorities for me, we have too many people that are working just live…and that doesn’t sit well with me. If elected I will not take the name of Mayor, because I believe it should be earned not given and until I accomplish this after four years….than the citizens can decide….if I have done the job asked by those that elected me….

What do you see as the primary role of the mayor?

The first thing that needs to be done is balance our budget. Our Mayor turned a blind eye to a budget that he inherited and in the past four years has never been balanced. So accountability comes into play. I am not one of the good ole boys and will be the first one to step on toes. Some of our city employees have become stagnant to their position and as I have been told, there are employees that are untouchable. So if we need to bring in new employees to get the job done that isn't getting done, we will find out who is untouchable. Second, we need to do away with Brownsville United or Imagine Brownsville, this is what happens when you have a Mayor with no vision and does not use the potential of City employee’s ideas. One Million dollars and four years later, we are not better off. In the grand scheme of it "We still have no Direction". What Brownsville United did do is separate the entities to get under the self-authorization of City Managers 35k and PUB Boards.

Without getting into the merits of service to Monterrey , do you believe the city properly handled the Fly Frontera deal?

NO…..this was a shotty deal from the get go and it made it seem like our elected officials that were promoting it were getting a piece of the pie. The question here is is there a demand for it…and the answer is NO…and if some take offense to this...my grandma used to say..."si te quede el saco"

What needs to get done to bring the people back to downtown? Qualifier - my readers do not want to hear develop the entertainment district - we know that - the issue is what will it take to get investors to develop the entertainment district or any other development which will bring people back to downtown. Is there something the city can do?

First, what makes money in our Downtown area? The Zoo… if we invest more money into our zoo and make our farmers market a vocal point. Now we have traffic going into the downtown area. Now picture this….. if the Zoo could some how purchase Cumming Junior high and turn it into an Aquarium Center…how many more jobs would it create and how much revenue. Second, we need to get the owners to take responsibility for the vacated properties in the entertainment district. Some owners have already started too, as we have become a city of giving away our tax dollars in incentives….why not re-invest into our local citizens to open there own businesses. This is what would happen…it would create jobs and the profit would stay in Brownsville . But when there is no leadership… and the agenda is about ones self…..you get what you have

I think that this city needs someone who can command the use of idioms ... Mr. Cardenas may be that man.... this city has been run by shotty people for far to long.

After he obtains a campaign editor, I will support him.

MR. CARDENAS YOU ARE THE COMMON SENSE VOICE SO BADLY NEEDED IN BROWNSVILLE LEADERS. I WILL PRAY FOR YOU TO WIN.
I DO REQUEST THAT IF BY CHANCE U DO NOT WIN PLEASE STAY ENGAGE AND BECOME A PERMANENT FIXTURE AT THE COMMISSION MEETING AND HOLD THESE CLOWNS THEIR FEET TO THE FIRE!!!!
THERE ARE OTHER COMMISSION SEATS COMING UP FOR ELECTION IN THE NOT TOO DISTANT FUTURE AND A VERY PUBLIC & VOCAL PRESENCE AT THE MEETINGS CAN GIVE U " CRED." FOR A POSSIBLE RUN!!!!!!

Mr. Cardenas is living proof if you set your mind to do something you can do it. He's been working since the age of 9 and now owns his own company. That is something to be proud of!

It is of interest to note Mr. Cardenas' heavy use of the ellipsis.

The word ellipsis is an ancient Greek word meaning "falling short".

The man is in the middle of a political campaign.

I like his slogan, which is from the movie Clash of the Titans, he just forgot to include the quotation marks.
