TONY MARTINEZ DEFENDS FLYER ON YES VOTE BY AHUMADA AND CAMARILLO

"Mr. Wightman-Cervantes

Tony wanted to be sure you saw the response to the commentary currently going around on facebook to the fly frontera mail piece. It is a direct reply to the question asked so is posted in the comments to the picture/question. I hope this clears up some misunderstanding. Please let me know if I can be of additional help.

Erica

From Fly Frontera's own website:
"On March 15, we brought that aircraft and provided an introductory flight to 23 passengers including board members and some city commission members. That evening, the commissioners voted 6-1 for the airport board to seek funding for the project."

This was the vote I was referring to in my recent mailer: Under the banner of "How We Got Here," Fly Frontera referred to March 15th commission vote on their website, that resulted in commissioners voting 6 to 1 to have the Airport Advisory Board seek funding. http://flyfrontera.com/lang/en-us/lets-make-history-together/. Carlos Quintanilla mentioned in public comment at the commission meeting and on more than one occasion that he had been working directly with Commissioner Camarillo, Mayor Ahumada, and Commissioner Atkinson for months putting this deal together. And the mayor told the Brownsville Herald that Commissioner Camarillo was supportive, until the political pressure built up and he backed off. But what I found troubling is that he remained silent on why this proposal did not follow the proper protocol of going to BDEC first, before GBIC. He also remained silent on what he was looking for in "due diligence" that would form the basis for his vote. As the saying goes, if you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem."

So what is clear Camarillo sought funding for Fly Frontera without even asking if they could fly in the US? Brownsville cannot afford this kind of failed leadership or complete and total incompetence.

RODRIGO MORENO SEEKS TO USE OBFUSCATION ON THE ISSUE WHILE CHEEZMEH MODERATOR SPEAKS FOR CAMARILLO

The BV has endorsed Tony Martinez - it does not seek to hide that fact.  People need to know this when then  consider my posts on the issue - it is called being transparent.

The Cheezmeh moderate claims they have not endorsed anyone but continues to run cover for Camarillo while now speaking for Camarillo while claiming it has not taken sides.  At the least the BV is honest.

Moreno asks the question how does Tony Martinez know who voted no in the 6-1 vote?  This is Moreno at his worst - Obfuscation.

FACTS CHEEZMEH MODERATOR:

Melissa Zamora has spoken out against this from day one - there is no published comments by Camarillo denouncing this.  Zamora was attacked by the FF mouth pieces - these are documented facts.  So Cheezmeh moderator instead of participating in the obfuscation how about demanding Camarillo give a straight up and down answer - was he the one no vote.

Ah, yes, we all know how you feel about asking Camarillo for his position on this issue - CENSORED

From the cheezmeh moderator who has not endorsed anyone - lies all lies

Brownsville Cheezmeh
Rodrigo Moreno RESPONDS: Mr. Martinez, I want to know where the proof is where Edward voted to fund the deal, I still don’t see that in your respond. How do you know who voted yes or who voted no? It was not a unanimous vote. How can you ma...ke a statement like “VOTED YES TO FUND THE DEAL”.
I find it kind of odd that you now hold the words of Mr. Quintanilla like they were written in stone and use them as reference in your mailer. I believe that if were true, you would have put them as reference in your little flyer.
As for the reference of the Mayor telling Camarillo was supportive of the deal, I recall that article coming out after your mailer was sent, so I guess either you have a crystal ball to look in to the future or you mail this crapy paper before you got your facts straight.
Please Mr. Martinez, show us where is the proof that EDWARD voted “YES”. You have to have it on hand to be able to send a mailer like this. So please Sr. don’t delay.

Hey Bobby I couldn't agree more with you about CHeezmeh. I asked you about them previously but I don't think you had "liked" them on FB yet, and therefore hadn't been exposed to their nonsense. I hate that they are wasting a valuable opportunity(the publicity they've recently received) with their own agenda. My question is do you happen to know what they are up to? If they are truely for the betterment of Brownsville that is great, to me it seems an all to familiar scam. Oust the current calabaza's to put in their own.

They are more than one person - the moderator is out of control and in substance is a combination of Atkinson and Quintanilla - but there are a lot of good people trying to work with the group trying to do great things

The moderator has zero tolerance for dissent from what he wants - this is causing problems - I have had numerous people associated with the discussions ask me what they can do about the moderator - my answer has been the same - nothing - it is his facebook page - but if they feel like he is a problem I suggest they create a blog and run it like a board -

It's unfortunate that Tony Martinez would take to using the infamous Carlos Quintanilla as a source for a city-wide mailout. Was it even printed in Brownsville or Cameron County for that matter?

The draft minutes say Pat Ahumada was absent from the meeting. There weren't even 7 people at the March 15 meeting to even be a 6-1 vote. Again look at your source Tony before you lie to the public about Ahumada and Camarillo's voting record. There are so many places you can vilify them, yet you resorted to making up something to go negative. What a shame.

The only possible vote that could have been a vote "for" Fly Frontera was in executive session vote. There was no action taken in executive session, the minutes say. There were no items referencing the airport in open session items. So what is Tony Martinez and his ghost writers talking about?

Curiously, Tony Martinez remains silent on the fourth calabazista. Why did Tony Martinez exclude Rick Longoria from his list of Carlos Q's friends? Before you say he was picking on his mayoral opponents on the commission, Charlie Atkinson was on his list of enemies. No reasonable person can deny Longoria was supportive of the deal. You might say Carlos Quintanilla had him at hello. Even Quintanilla's local mouthpiece blogger Juan Montoya quoted his Chicano Sith as being pissed off at Camarillo AND LONGORIA. Why would Tony Martinez protect Ricardo Longoria. If Camarillo was against due diligence or whatever he is trying to say, then so were all FOUR calabizistas, Longoria included.

I think Tony Martinez stepped in it when he didn't have to. Why? I thought he was smarter than that. I thought he was our White Ghandolf here to rescue Brownsville.

The mailout says "Why is the deal being rushed before election day - saddling a new Mayor and City Commission with a deal they had no voice in?"

One of his biggest supporters is Carlos Marin and many of the Imagine Brownsville/United Brownsville clique.

I would like to know if Tony Martinez had then a problem four years ago with former Mayor Eddie Trevino pushing through and saddling Imagine Brownsville on a new Mayor and City Commission?

Pat Ahumada has a few choice words on Imagine Brownsville.

Both of these comments came from the same person back to back - I hate nothing more than people who try to hide their bias in an ounce of support.

Before leaving for a meeting and dinner I did check the March 15 agenda and it is true Tony was taken - but here is a fact the lie was by Jim Gallagher who claims to be FF - who claimed Quintanilla was no longer involved.

But clearly Tony got taken by assuming Jim gallagher was capable of telling the truth.

Further, immediately after Tony put this information out Quintanilla pulled the lie from the web page - which begets the question did Camarillos hatchet man Rodrigo Moreno call Quintanilla and tell him to remove the lie?

People Quintanilla and gallager are telling people this is not done - I believe it is not done - I believe Camarillo has promised Gallagher and Quintanilla that if elected he will put it back on the agenda -

The BV has documented with a picture that Rodrigo Moreno openly worked with Quintanilla, Lehmann and Escobedo to bring us the BISD mess - Moreno is Quintanilla's man locally - he is camarillo

As to where you claim Tony is protecting Longoria please post where that post is - I would like to see it - because if it is true he is attacking Atkinson but not Longoria I wil lcall him on it - the BV has no sacred cows - but I cannot do that if you do not provide for me and my readers where this happened.

It is protection through omission Bobby. You have the quote on your blog post already. Martinez names only three and focuses in on Camarillo first, then the mayor, and then Atkinson. I thought Longoria worked on the deal for months too. Or was he absent? Longoria told the public had done his homework, and he believed FF was a good company before telling us FF was never coming back. You've documented all of this.

The Herald said the due diligence report on Fly Frontera was confidential. How did the Herald get a confidential report so quickly? The city usually drags its feet in handing out even the simplest of information. Is this a move towards transparency or a sorry attempt at covering their ass?

BobbyWC said...

Nice catch - I did not notice it - you are right and get the BV's first Gold Stay - again nice catch and thanks for highlighting it

Martinez is imply wrong for not including Longoria - you have raised a very valid Question and Tony needs to explain - the BV has no sacred cows.

If you notice in my post today I make a big issue about the release of the report,.

I do not know about CYA because it only made the city commission look bad - I believe one of two people released it - this is why I want an investigation.

I find it curious that Jason Hilt went from bad mouthing Zamora to now wanting to be the hero - not buying that one

Martinez saw an opportunity. Simple as that. His implementation was flawed, slightly misinformed. Camarillo appears increasingly weak, like a Rodrigo puppet. Notice I'm not mentioning Ahumada. He's done!. . . .Michael Garza is looking more intriguing by the minute.

BobbyWC said...

I would love to see either Michael Garza or Viro Cardenas in the run-off with Martinez - this would mean no matter what happens we would have new blood as mayor - which would be a good thing.

Now I do not want to bias people against Viro - but I think Mike would have a better chance in a one on one with Martinez - it would allow for the two to focus on the issues instead of this garbage distraction being put out by Rodrigo Moreno and Camarillo

I could actually tolerate Martinez, Garza or Cardenas. Tony would have to adjust to interaction with the masses, but I don't think he's incapable.

The seasoned voter knows that they all promise jobs - blah blah blah - I ignore this as stupid campaign promises

My big issue is, who is best equipt bring calm to the commission and lead the commission - I think the answer is Tony Martinez

Before dinner at was at a meeting and the people I met with to a person told me Camarillo cannot run from his association with Quintanlla and Moreno will hang him - some were garza supporters some were martinez supporters - but they are determined to get the truth out about camarillo - a do nothing commissioner who has 100% of the time voted against the people

What do ALL have to say about this issue? There are 5 people running and I have only heard bits & pieces from a few of them on important issues. All we hear is a lot of empty rhetoric & see how fun it is to have rallys & hit every bar in the city. Some say they will balance the budget without raising taxes yet there are 2 candidates who don't own property so how would they know about having to pay HIGH property taxes? Sales taxes? We all have to pay those. How can it be done? What figures have they come up with to do so? Have they mapped it all out for EVERYONE to see? I haven't heard EXACTLY how they can pay for more policemen, ambulances, etc. which this city is in need of. What business background do these people have. What experience? Education? Where is it written what exactly they ALL plan to do? I'm confused. One says one thing, the other says another. I do like Viro's slogan from the movie Clash of the Titans: "One day, someone was gonna have to take a stand. One day, someone was gonna have to say....ENOUGH! This is that day." Though "that day" is almost here and I still do not have a clue who to vote for.

Are all the mayoral candidates Democrats?

royal wedding = charro days
B'vlle has it going on, just as much drama as anywhere in the mundo!

Our own little kingdom complete with ceasars, kings, king-makers,jesters, and even a few Brutus', many; et tu brute.

Charletins will always prey on our kind because we are so easy to fool.

How many days did it take for the latest pro-active group to start taking sides and get ugly?

Divide and conquer, crabs in a bucket, or whatever logic you apply, they are playing us like a fine instrument. Why else do we have the same pool of candidates to choose from?

I do give them credit because the process is cut-throat and thick skin is a pre-requisite.

Or maybe we should appreciate the class of candidates we have because people like me only bitch about the system and live for another day.

Oh well, another day in Brownsville, things could be worse.

Keep up the good work. You're effort is much appreciated.

Beyond Tony Martinez I have no idea if anyone else is a Democrat - but on that issue - with over 100 anti-Latino laws introduced by the Republicans in Austin, voting for a Republican for me is certainly not an option - you might say you are legal and born here so it does not impact you - you are wrong - if many of these laws get through law enforcement will just see you as a latino to be targeted - the laws also have the state encouraging the hate mongers

ON the other issue you are right - the candidates are not explaining how they intend to keep any of their promises.

Viro is right about take a stand - like I said I would like to see him in the run-off with Tony - I just wish I knew more about him.

Tony is a very successful businessman - he does not earn a living bribing judges as Quintanila wants everyone to believe - I know how Tony makes his money as a lawyer and it is not dealing with the type cases involved in the Limas affair. they are bigger. Further if he were implicated he would have received an FBI target letter by now and would be focusing on his defense and not running for mayor - this is Camarillo, Moreno, and Quintanilla working to get Camarillo elected so he can put Fly Frontera back on the agenda.

I truly wish Viro would send me a statement as to his views of city government and what he might be able to accomplish as mayor.

I do believe the best thing for the city if to see any combination of Viro Cardenas, Mike Garza and tony martinez. then we can have a real conversation between two adults without the dirty politics of Camarillo, Rodrigo Moreno and Carlos Quintanilla

I loved your question and it was 100% important to our discussion.

Oh to be fair - if Mike garza wants to send the same statement I requested from Viro I will post it.

My issue, without judging Mike Garza or Viro Cardenas is that Tony Martinez is our best bet to bring sanity to the commission - I think he will end the confrontation. But he is no better than anyone else in explaining how he will accomplish his goals. But a unified and rational commission will make it easier.

But I will say if Mike or Viro are in the run-off with Mike I will closely look at the debates or discussions and reconsider my vote.

Thanks Mr Bobby!

I always appreciate your prompt responses to my questions! Keep up the good work!!

However, there are still lots more questions to be answered..and we are running out of time..to be continued...

BobbyWC said...

Well I am prompt because I am awake - I am waiting for the gabapentin to kick in - it helps me sleep and kills the neurapathy in my legs .

I truly like what Viro says and if I knew more about him I might change my endorsement - I really know nothing about him - but I believe we need someone who will shake up the process and how things are done.

The city needs to cut back on personnel - we have no choice - the economy will not get better any time soon - next years budget is going to be just as bad as this years - bridge fees are down - inflation is up and gas is up so people will spend less and sales taxes will go down - we need a leader who will lead - it is time to furlough city employees - I know that makes me bad in their eyes - but otherwise how do we pay - the people are taxed out and times are only going to get harder

I am in district 4 and will not vote - I asked Villarreal two simple questions - did the city of Brownsville handle the Fly Frontera issue properly and in his mind how is being a district commissioner different from being an at large commissioner - District 4 needs and advocate for district 4 - he refuses to answer my questions - he will not get my vote. I will not vote for Patel and Zavaleta had no problem getting what he wanted for his wife and using the system to his advantage - so I will note vote in district 4 race

I am not sure about the at Large Race - I have been trying to get information on Robert Lopez but cannot seem to find anything - so he does not seem too willing to share as far as I am concerned.

Candidates hate questions - real sad state of affairs we have in American politics.

I have not heard much about Patel. Has he answered any questions?

I know he has appeared at events - but he does not seem interested in getting out his position. I am not disclosing my reason for not voting for him because if I am wrong it would be wrong for me to have stated my reason - but I a real certain I am right - plus it is my understanding he spoke in favor of Fly Frontera

This is from the Mayor's FB comments:
". . . The elected officials speak for the citizens of Brownsville and my indicators is that by and large many support this venture. Although, they may be the silent majority at the council meetings, I have been in touch with them. I firmly believe we must seize the opportunity, otherwise we may not get another chance to do this. Thank you!"

Anonymous said...

Mr Bobby,
Good afternoon..so according to the post by Anonymous 04/30/11 @ 12:37pm ..our Mayor has posted on FB an allegation that "many supported this venture"? There are 5 men running..what does "many" mean? More than 2? WHO EXACTLY DID SUPPORT this "venture"?? NOW is the time for ALL to post why they did support or why they did not support this "venture". This can be a deal breaker for a lot of people but what's even more concerning is why haven't ALL 5 candidates spoken up? Again with the bits & pieces. Tough questions require the answers we need but even more importantly, deserve. This is not a popularity contest. We, the people of Brownsville deserve to hear it "straight from the horses mouth", not via postings on a Facebook Wall. One thing I will say though, whether I agree with whomever voted yay or nay on this "venture", I would have respect if they said "I was for it/against it" because at least they have spoken up for their OWN beliefs & convictions. That is what makes a true leader, one who knows that we can all "agree to disagree" and more so, stand on his own beliefs because HE believes it, not what's popular. What is what's RIGHT in their eyes. Early elections are literally right around the corner & the people have the right to know where they all stand.

According to "The Collegian Online", Viro has worked since the age of 9 and is now the owner of M & B Auto Service. His business knowledge and the fact that he owns his own company is also a plus because we all know it takes money and committment to run for any type of office.
This is what his views are:
“My agenda is to put priorities where they belong: revitalizing the downtown area, creating economic structure to make sure that there is money coming into Brownsville and not have so many Fortune 500 companies, where all their revenue goes back to corporate office.”
