PAT ALMIGHTY AND PUB FREEZE OUT SENIORS - WHAT SAY YOU TONY MARTINEZ?

This issue has been repeatedly brought to the attention of Pat Almighty to no avail. After hurricanes when the PUB engages in rolling black outs the first they hit are the senior citizen retirement centers. As I have repeatedly noted these people depend on electricity for their medical devices.

Again, the PUB chose to throw them under the bus. For hours on end Palm Resaca and Winter Haven were denied electricity and in effect heat. These people need electricity for their medical devices - but even more they are more subject to infections, viruses, and pneumonia.

The decision by the PUB, of which Pat Almighty is a board member, is criminal to deny these people electricity and heat.

WHAT SAY YOU TONY MARTINEZ?

From what I have read some of the lack of electricity was not rolling black outs. When something happens to a transformer nothing can be done but fix the problem. Also the rolling blackout were ordered by an outside entity. From what I saw on the Dallas TV stations there are no exception of who is blackouted but they try to avoid hospitals. Otherwise all must be included this is not controlled by PUB and more importantly the Brownsville mayor.

Your comment is good and the kind I like best- It is productive and trying to ad light to the discussion - I truly love comments like yours.

But you may not know this - after hurricanes Palm Resaca and Winter Haven are always the last or near last to get electricity back - while all of the residential homes around them have electricity.

Both of these parks have contracts with Magic Valley.

Several years ago when I first researched this I learned it is in fact the PUB who decides on where the rolling blackouts occur.

In fact the first time I researched this I went to one of the local tv stations and within an hour of the TV station contacting the PUB Palm Resaca had electricity - I did not know about Winter Haven at the time so I did not include them in the press release.

So while you had no way of knowing I had research this before - I do stand by my position that the PUB is targeting these parks because they are with Magic Valley = The PUB wants to give preference to there own customers.

I do not have a problem with this - but in this case we are dealing with some very fargile senior citizens.

Also I do accept that rolling blackouts impact seniors all over the area including seniors who do not live in these parks - but targeting and entire park of seniors is simply wrong

I don't think our Commissioners ever think outside their own neighborhoods!

The piece I saw was a representative from ERCOT who ordered the rolling blackouts for most of the state. She was specifically asked about exemptions for elderly etc. Her answer was that there were none but tried to avoid hospitals or give them warning. After a hurricane the blackout are most likely not ERCOT ordered as they are just for the local area. This was for the whole TX grid.

Thanks for the additional information - your are correct that ERCOT ordered it but they are not the ones who actually pull the plug on the customers - it is the group which controls the local power

I did not know they said no elderly - I need to check this because it would then appear PUB violated the order

I said they did not exempt elderly might of typed it wrong. I have cabin fever. Been in since Monday had more snow today. Ice then about 6 inces of snow on top of that. When I what I heard they are required to do rolling blackouts of their whole systen in 12-30 min intervals. They said just because you had been out didn't mean it wouldn't happen again that day. My cousin in Dallas in 7 hours had had several.

I think Pat should come out on this issue and address it publicly.

Someone mentioned to me that in the United States, the elderly are not highly respected as compared to the rest of the world. I hope this is not true.

The peole at palm Resaca are pissed. At 5:30 or 6:30 I got a call from someone at Palm Resaca claiming they had been without electricity since 12:30 p.m. - and even then had barely just gotten it back.

Some parts of the park have electricity others do not.

They said the residents look for any evidence of down lines or ice or trees on the lines - nothing

They are pissed and are going to let their views known on election day

Unfortunately they are not respected! What a shame!

Even if on some issues we don't seem to agree, I would like to thank you for this article. Gracias.

Life would be boring if we agreed - the goal is an honest conversation based on real facts and not made up BS.

Good people can look to the same facts and arrive at different opinions - the key is making decisions based on real facts

come on! give pat a break. Do you think AEP/CPL would give a shit if Pat Ahumada, Mayor of Brownsville (who has an electrical system with which they compete) called them and told them to do something? that is naive. this extended blackout was valleywide. those cpl customers who are in double certified areas need to request to be changed to a local system where they will get satisfaction when they call. pub is not perfect, but it is way better than cpl!
