DID PAT HAMMES LIGHT THE FIRE?

"Pat Hammes did a great job of challenging the board to put up or shut up in terms of fiscal responsibility last night! I wonder what Pat would have said about any complaints concerning insurance at a previous meeting if Escobedo had not had Cata shut him down? Would we have found Cata's claim of "receiving phone calls" about insurance problems totally bogus?

I am sorry I missed the meeting, I had non-VA business in SA yesterday.  I am assuming in that the Herald has no headline Springston was fired means Carlito shot blanks again.  The only thing I have been able to learn for sure is Escobedo is scrambling to save his control.

It should shock no one the Herald has no news on last nights meeting.

Nothing will change until the BISD employees lead the battle. Pat Hammes is a great start.  But we are approaching the 11th hour.  The damage to morale at BISD is significant.  Unfortunately the administrators and teachers do not see the problem as a whole - they see it individually.  Attacking the Area Superintendents was a stupid move.  They now know they are all on the chopping block.  But I know people - they will walk themselves into the butcher shop, sit down on the block and then express outrage they are about to be hacked to pieces.

Oh, and for the record, I agree the principals should be paid more than the area superintendents.

I certainly do agree with your last statement. Asst supts sit on their dierrier all day in their office and go to the campus to intimidate the principals after they have been raked over the coals by Springston. They come up with a new fad and demand that principals implement this on their campus. The principals are then the bearer of additional responsiblities for the teachers. I should have applied for a position as Asst Supt, instead of retiring, and now making the big bucks to produce dog and pony shows. The principals are the ones that are burdened with all the requirements and the teachers fall right behind; yet, who gets the big bucks! Yes, the morale at BISD is at an all time low because teachers are not allowed to be teachers and really get down with teaching basic concepts of knowledge to the children, even if it mean deviating from that stupid curriculum they must follow. Leave them alone to do what is best for the students. But, in spite of what is going on at the glass palace with the adminstration and school board, they continue their focus to be there for the children. Ask Springston how many times he has actually visited a campus or a classroom that is not for publicity purposes. If he is going to be fired for not evaluating his Asst Supt. who is going to be fired for not evaluating Springston. As a former educator and tax-paying citizen, I am disgusted with what is happening in this town, at all levels!!!!!

Is there any truth about the past legal counsel for the district being in touble?

BobbyWC said...

It is a con job - statements are being taken out of context - unless we know what they were looking for we have no way of knowing if it was illegal

NOW BACK TO REALITY

The TEA found the allegations to be based on evidence -

Rendon and Gonzales cannot refute the evidence so they attack the attorney

until they refute the evidence the evidence is the evidence regardless of who the attorney may be.

If you are going to be played by out of context recordings of people - then you will always be t evictim of con-artists and drunks

I agree with you 100%. Sometimes people can be easily confused with bs- your answers make a big difference.

I do agree that morale is low at BISD. Employees have had enough. Unfortunately, if employees do complain or say anything, they can simply be reassigned or fired. Being at-will, means they will put up with you as long as you do not cause waves.

Area Supts are paid well. They do have to supervise several schools in their cluster. Principles are the leaders of the schools and do earn their money. Funny though, we don't really get rid of principles if they mess up, they get promoted and reassigned to Administration as Admnistrators (look at the BISD-Transportation Dept).

Wait a minute, that was my original thought about transportation. That man is doing an excellent job controlling all those unlicensed lawyers that drive buses(no offense intended Bobby). I have always been told that those positions, trans. and maintenance have been reserved for screw up principal's. If all principals were surveyed about the maintenance department, not one would say anything good about the maintenance department. If nothing else, this should make Art Rendon feel a little better, he only had two principals that believed in him.

Look, I have no idea if the situtation in Transportation is good or bad - I am not challenging the poster - I am noting part of the problem with anony posts which make these kind of attacks is we have no way of knowing if the poster is an employee turned down for a promotion and simply seeks to settle a score.

To be clear - I am not saying anything for or against because I have seen no proof one way of the other

Now having said that

the current and past boards refuse to fire failed principals - this nonsense of endlessly transfering them around needs to end.

BISD needs to cut its budget first and foremost by laying off Administrators - there are way too many

The TEA has already warned BISD on this and the Board said - F/U - "we are about our cronies and the TEA needs to stay out of it."

I do agree that BISD is in a financial crunch. You need to be a bit more specific on what you mean about laying off administrators. Looking at the reports published by TEA (AEIS), the administration ratio is far below that of the state.

BISD should have a hiring freeze, and once administrators and teachers retire, they can look into various options on how to save money. As a taxpayer and voter, I feel that the 1st thing we need to do is to "vote-in" competent individuals to the school board. BUT WHO WANTS TO RUN?

Who wants to run is just as important as people voting for the best candidate, based on facts not he said she said bs.
