The American people are clearly opposed to the auto industry bailout. The Dems have no choice but to back something because they are indebted to the unions. With the lack of a filibuster proof Senate, it appears that the bailout which passed the House yesterday will fail in the Senate. Well, unless of course the Dems put billions of dollars of pork on the table to buy Republican votes.

So how then are the Dems having it both ways? If the bailout fails in the Senate they can blame it on the Republicans. The unions will not be able to say the Dems betrayed them. Further, with no bailout the American people will not be mad at the Dems for going against the will of the American people.

Finally, if the bailout fails in the Senate, and massive unemployment follows because one of the three goes under, the fickled American people will blame the Republicans. The tragedy is, the three just need to file for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy. Until the UAW contracts are brought into reality with world markets and the cost of labor in non-UAW factories in the South, nothing will change.
