IF WE CANNOT BEAT DOLLY WE MIGHT AS WELL GET A LAUGH FROM HER

People - this is my 4th post today - 3 are related to Dolly and are short - make sure you scroll down to my political commentary for something more thought provoking

You know if Brownsville/SPI had a real gay community we would be on the beach in drag welcoming Dolly as only a bunch of drag dressing queers can. This would be a sight for CNN and Fox news.

Brownsville/SPI DOES have a real gay community. A very big and nice one.

I am aware SPI and Brownsville have a gay community. But without a club other than Valentinos and the one on SPI they are not very out there

Having lived in Houston and Dallas Brownsville really does not have an out there gay community - trust me in Houston had Dolly hit Galveston - the drags queens would have been on the beach performing Hello Dolly.

I can honestly say El Paso in 1976 had a more out of the closet and active gay community than Brownsville today-

There is no openly gay lawyers association - no openly gay teachers association - no openly gay professional association (I'm told some gay professionals are trying to form such an association but they will remain in the closet) I have discussed the idea of creating a PFLAG chapter here in Brownsville - nothing more effective than the parents doing the speaking - among the gay professionals I know there is no support for such an organization. Three years ago I approached the Herald about doing a story about PFLAG and my efforts at an organizing meeting - no response - I was simply ignored. Had the Dallas Morning News ignore us when we had a similar organizational meeting in 1993, the gay community would have burned their buildings down in anger -

Yes there are gays - but in a real sense they are still in the closet and powerless
